Resveratrol relieves HFD-induced insulin resistance in skeletal muscle tissue through antioxidant capacity enhancement and the Nrf2-Keap1 signaling pathway
CONCLUSIONS: These results suggest that resveratrol is effective in improving the antioxidant defense system of the skeletal muscle in HFD-fed mice, indicating its therapeutic potential to combat diseases associated with insulin resistance and oxidative stress.PMID:38622329 | DOI:10.1007/s11033-024-09434-4 (Source: Molecular Biology Reports)

Diagnosis of Behcet's disease in a young male patient with acute bilateral pulmonary embolism; A case report and literature review
We present a 30-year-old patient who was admitted with pleuritic chest pain, non-massive hemoptysis since 4 days ago and medical history of intermittent genial aphthous lesions, and skin lesions. During our evaluation, he had an S1Q3T3 pattern in the electrocardiogram, a high level of D-dimer, a low level of FDP and fibrinogen along with pulmonary emboli in lobar and segmental branches of the right pulmonary artery and segmental branches of left lower lobe pulmonary artery were detected in his pulmonary CT Angiography. Then, he was positive for HLA-B51. Based on his clinical condition and history of recurrent genital and s...

Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever Virus Diversity and Reassortment, Pakistan, 2017-2020
Emerg Infect Dis. 2024 Apr;30(4):654-664. doi: 10.3201/eid3004.231155.ABSTRACTSporadic cases and outbreaks of Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) have been documented across Pakistan since 1976; however, data regarding the diversity of CCHF virus (CCHFV) in Pakistan is sparse. We whole-genome sequenced 36 CCHFV samples collected from persons infected in Pakistan during 2017-2020. Most CCHF cases were from Rawalpindi (n = 10), followed by Peshawar (n = 7) and Islamabad (n = 4). Phylogenetic analysis revealed the Asia-1 genotype was dominant, but 4 reassorted strains were identified. Strains with reassorted medium gene se...

Acute Ischemic Stroke in a Patient with Multiple Sclerosis after Initiating Teriflunomide Treatment: A Challenging Case
Curr Ther Res Clin Exp. 2024 Jan 30;100:100732. doi: 10.1016/j.curtheres.2024.100732. eCollection 2024.ABSTRACTMultiple sclerosis is an autoimmune disease of the central nervous system, during which vascular events, including atherosclerosis, are more common and progress faster. Teriflunomide (TFN) is an oral drug that studies have indicated has low side effects alongside high efficiency. In this article, a middle-aged woman with multiple sclerosis was introduced, whose medication was changed to TFN. Thirty-five days later, she presented with focal neurologic symptoms, and investigations reported a lacunar infarction. Havi...

Serum N-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids and resting heart rate, exercise maximal heart and recovery heart rate
Rationale: N-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), especially linoleic acid (LA), have been inversely associated with CVD. However, potential mechanisms underlying these associations are not completely known. We evaluated the associations of the serum concentrations of total n-6 PUFA, LA, arachidonic acid (AA), gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), and dihomo-gamma-linolenic acid (DGLA), with resting heart rate, maximal HR during exercise and HR recovery after exercise, predictors of future cardiac events.
