Frequency and timing of adverse reactions to COVID-19 vaccines; A multi-country cohort event monitoring study
CONCLUSION: Despite some limitations due to study design and study-roll out, CEM studies can allow prompt and almost real-time observations of the safety of medications directly from a patient-centered perspective, which can play a crucial role for regulatory bodies during an emergency setting such as the COVID-19 pandemic.PMID:38448322 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2024.03.001 (Source: Vaccine)

Speech Fluency Production and Perception in L1 (Slovak) and L2 (English) Read Speech
Lang Speech. 2024 Mar 5:238309241230899. doi: 10.1177/00238309241230899. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTResearch on fluency in native (L1) and non-native (L2) speech production and perception helps us understand how individual L1 speaking style might affect perceived L2 fluency and how this relationship might be reflected in L1 versus L2 oral assessment. While the relationship between production and perception of fluency in spontaneous speech has been studied, the information provided by reading has been overlooked. We argue that reading provides a direct and controlled way to assess language proficiency that might compleme...

Mercury in the feathers of Golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos) from Western Carpathian, Slovakia
In this study, mercury (Hg) concentrations were detected in feathers of golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos), a bird that typically inhabits alpine and forest areas. The mercury rates in feathers were compared in two groups of eagles: first, estimated home range (breeding, hunting, etc.) was located only in forest and lowland meadow habitats; second, the home range also included alpine habitats-rocks and meadows. Consequently, mercury concentration based on the feather typology were observed and the mercury levels in feathers were also compared among different Slovak Western Carpathian districts. It was found that there was no...

Readability of Patient Electronic Materials for Atopic Dermatitis in 23 Languages: Analysis and Implications for Dermatologists
ConclusionsAlthough there was an abundance of online articles related to AD, the readability of the available information was low. As online health information has become essential in making shared decisions between patients and physicians, an improvement in AD-related materials is needed. (Source: Dermatology and Therapy)

Comparison of the level of physical activity after the COVID-19 pandemic in Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic
ConclusionsSignificant differences in PA levels between the Czech Republic, Poland, and Slovakia university students were identified. Slovakia showed the highest median PA measured as a MET score, and Poland showed the lowest. Compared to available pre-COVID studies it seems the total level of PA in the observed cohorts has not returned to the pre-COVID levels and students remain less active. Probability of exposure to the wild measles virus in adult population - Estimation from seroepidemiology and historical data
This study aimed to classify the particular birth cohorts of adults with regard to their exposure to the wild measles virus in the population with a long history of mandatory vaccination. We introduced two methods. In the first, we estimated the probability of exposure to the wild virus through an analysis of antibody levels from the Immunologic Survey performed in the Slovak Republic in 2018, while the second was based on historical epidemiological data. Both methods resulted in similar estimations. Cohorts born in Slovakia before 1964 can be considered to be cohorts in which most people were exposed to the wild measles v...

Premature deaths from fine particles PM < sub > 2.5 < /sub > air pollution in regional capitals of Slovakia during 2016-2020 period
CONCLUSIONS: The estimated number of premature deaths from long-term exposure to particulate matter air pollution in the regional capitals decreased in the given period. The most of the regional capitals with the exception of Bratislava and Žilina, showed similar levels of estimated premature deaths. However, the current geopolitical situation and rising energy prices threaten return to solid fuel burning which is the largest source of particulate matter air pollution in Slovakia and thus reversing positive trends.PMID:38309703 | DOI:10.21101/cejph.a7748 (Source: Central European Journal of Public Health)
