Early COVID-Related pandemic impacts and subsequent opioid outcomes among persons receiving medication for opioid use disorder: a secondary data analysis of a Type-3 hybrid trial
CONCLUSIONS: Mitigating the effect of the pandemic on patients' interpersonal relationships and employment, and promoting greater infection control in opioid treatment programs, could be protective against negative opioid-related outcomes. Trial registration The present study describes secondary data analysis on a previously registered clinical trial: clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT03931174.PMID:37705105 | PMC:PMC10500804 | DOI:10.1186/s13722-023-00409-7

Patients' long-term perspectives on gains and losses after temporal lobe resection for epilepsy
CONCLUSIONS: Presurgical hopes go beyond seizure freedom and memory and naming problems are experienced lasting many years after surgery in the temporal lobe. Better preoperative information, particularly about unwanted cognitive effects, is of prime importance. By exploring patientś presurgical hopes, a common ground for expectations on surgery may be found along with strategies on how to cope with cognitive difficulties and possible negative life changes.PMID:37703614 | DOI:10.1016/j.yebeh.2023.109400

Utility of psychotherapy assessed with Kessler scale in a population of cancer patients undergoing systemic oncological treatment: a mono-institutional experience
CONCLUSIONS: The use of the K10 test is helpful in monitoring the degree of psychological distress of patients facing the diagnosis of cancer and who are about to start oncological treatment. Psychotherapy is effective in reducing the distress of these patients just a few months after starting treatment.PMID:37699600 | DOI:10.21037/cco-23-54

Perpetuation of household food insecurity during COVID-19 in South Africa
CONCLUSIONS: South Africa needs to address socioeconomic challenges and inequalities to assist the perpetually food insecure and to ensure that, should there be a pandemic resurgence, or a new pandemic, individuals and households in the country are in a better financial situation and appropriately supported to avoid food insecurity at all costs.PMID:37700382 | PMC:PMC10498595 | DOI:10.1186/s41043-023-00441-y

Does green innovation promote environmental efficiency from a global perspective? A hybrid approach (fuzzy DEA-SEM-ANN)
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2023 Sep 13. doi: 10.1007/s11356-023-29761-6. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGreen innovation is crucial for reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and promoting environmental efficiency worldwide. However, there is a lack of scholarly research investigating the relationship between environmentally friendly innovations and improved environmental performance. To fill this knowledge gap, a comprehensive study was conducted using data from 64 countries spanning 2010 to 2018. The study employed a hybrid approach, combining fuzzy DEA, structural equation modeling (SEM), and artificial neural networks...

Impact on mental health, disease management, and socioeconomic modifications in hematological patients during the COVID-19 pandemic in Italy
CONCLUSION: During the initial phase of the COVID-19 pandemic, hematological patients had elevated levels of depression, anxiety, and stress compared with the general population. The delay in their treatment and employment status played a role in their mental health outcomes. These findings emphasize the importance of further research to gain deeper insight into the long-term psychological effects and explore effective strategies for managing mental health in similar crises.PMID:37693118 | PMC:PMC10483981 | DOI:10.1177/20406207231190683
