Single Fraction vs. Fractionated Preoperative Radiosurgery for Resected Brain Metastases: a PROPS-BM International Multicenter Cohort Study
CONCLUSIONS: Preoperative MF-SRS was associated with significantly reduced risk of cavity LR in both the unmatched and PSM analyses. There was no difference in ARE, MD, or OS based on fractionation. MF-SRS may be a preferred option for neoadjuvant RT of resected brain metastases. Additional confirmatory studies are needed. A phase III randomized trial of single fraction preoperative vs. postoperative SRS (NRG-BN012) is ongoing (NCT05438212).PMID:37717787 | DOI:10.1016/j.ijrobp.2023.09.012

The influence of patient positioning and immobilization equipment on MR image quality and image registration in radiation therapy
CONCLUSION: The image quality reduction in the RT setup was due to the imaged region's anatomy and its position relative to the applied coil. Furthermore, optimizing the pulse sequence is crucial for MR imaging in RT applications. Although the use of immobilization equipment may decrease the image quality in the RT setup, it does not affect organ delineation, and the image quality is still satisfactory for this purpose. Also, the use of immobilization equipment in the RT setup has increased registration accuracy.PMID:37716368 | DOI:10.1002/acm2.14162

Low Expression of A3C and PLP2 Indicating a Favorable Prognosis in Human Gliomas
In conclusion, our results not only confirmed A3C played an important role in glioma development, but the A3C IHC test could successfully predict the therapeutic effects and disease prognosis.PMID:37715423 | DOI:10.14715/cmb/2023.69.7.12

Long noncoding RNA LGALS8-AS1 promotes angiogenesis and brain metastases in non-small cell lung cancer
Acta Biochim Pol. 2023 Sep 16. doi: 10.18388/abp.2020_6501. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBrain metastases (BM) are associated with poor prognosis in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Considering that, LGAS8-AS1-mediated progression of BM was probed in NSCLC. The clinical characteristics of 60 NSCLC patients (30 without BM and 30 with BM) were analyzed. NSCLC patients with BM had higher levels of LGALS8-AS1 than NSCLC patients without BM. Depleting LGALS8-AS1 prevented NSCLC cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and angiogenesis in vitro, and NSCLC tumorigenesis and BM in vivo. LGALS8-AS1 targeted miR-88...

Amisulpride attenuates 5-fluorouracil-induced cognitive deficits via modulating hippocampal Wnt/GSK-3 β/β-catenin signaling in Wistar rats
This study aimed at investigating the effects of chronic treatment with amisulpride (5 mg/kg/day) in the management of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU)-induced cognitive deficits in Wistar rats. Rats received 5 intraperitoneal injections of 5-FU (25 mg/kg every 3 days). 5-FU treatment induced impairments in spatial learning (reduction in object location discrimination ratio) and non-spatial learning (reduction in novel object recognition discrimination ratio). Moreover, 5-FU induced a decrease in the activity of the Wnt/GSK-3β/β-catenin pathway with a decrease in brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) level in the hippocampus. Th...

Elevated CRP and TNF- α levels are associated with blunted neural oscillations serving fluid intelligence
DISCUSSION: Elevated inflammatory markers such as CRP and TNF-α were associated with aberrant neural oscillations in regions important for Gf. Linking inflammatory markers with regional neural oscillations may hold promise in identifying mechanisms of cognitive and psychiatric disorders.PMID:37716379 | DOI:10.1016/j.bbi.2023.09.012

SRRM4-mediated REST to REST4 dysregulation promotes tumor growth and neural adaptation in breast cancer leading to brain metastasis
CONCLUSIONS: Collectively, our findings identify SRRM4 as a regulator of brain metastasis colonization, and a potential therapeutic target in breast cancer.PMID:37716001 | DOI:10.1093/neuonc/noad175

Bioluminescence Imaging with Functional Amyloid Reservoirs in Alzheimer's Disease Models
Anal Chem. 2023 Sep 15. doi: 10.1021/acs.analchem.3c02358. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBioluminescence imaging has changed the daily practice of preclinical research on cancer and other diseases over the last few decades; however, it has rarely been applied in preclinical research on Alzheimer's disease (AD). In this Article, we demonstrated that bioluminescence imaging could be used to report the levels of amyloid beta (Aβ) species in vivo. We hypothesized that AkaLumine, a newly discovered substrate for luciferase, could bind to Aβ aggregates and plaques. We further speculated that the Aβ aggregates/fibrils/plaques ...
