Research Progress of Metformin in the Treatment of Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma
Endocrinology. 2023 Sep 20:bqad139. doi: 10.1210/endocr/bqad139. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is one of the most common malignancies with high mortality, posing a great threat to both human physical and mental health. With the advancement of scientific research, a variety of cancer therapies have been used for OSCC treatment. However, the prognosis of OSCC shows no significant improvement. Metformin has been recognized as the first-line drug for the treatment of diabetes, and recent studies have shown that metformin has a remarkable suppressive effect on tumor progression. Metformin can...

STAT3-EphA7 axis contributes to the progression of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma
CONCLUSION: Our results showed that the transcriptional expression of EphA7 was increased by activated STAT3, and the STAT3 signaling may act through EphA7 to promote the development of ESCC.PMID:37738252 | DOI:10.1080/0284186X.2023.2259601

Activity of pazopanib in < em > EWSR1-NFATC2 < /em > translocation-associated bone sarcoma
Oncoscience. 2023 Sep 20;10:44-53. doi: 10.18632/oncoscience.587. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTPazopanib is a multi-kinase inhibitor that is currently approved for treatment of advanced renal cell carcinoma and chemotherapy-refractory soft tissue sarcoma. In this case report, we discuss the case of a patient with a EWSR1-NFATC2 fusion positive bone sarcoma who had exceptional tumor control through using pazopanib and surgery for an overall duration exceeding 5 years. We also review the literature on EWSR1-NFATC2 translocation-associated sarcomas and use of pazopanib in bone sarcomas.PMID:37736255 | PMC:PMC10511123 | DOI:10.18632/oncoscience.587

Galectin-3 Cooperates with CD47 to Suppress Phagocytosis and T cell Immunity in Gastric Cancer Peritoneal Metastases
Cancer Res. 2023 Sep 22. doi: 10.1158/0008-5472.CAN-23-0783. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe peritoneal cavity is a common site of gastric adenocarcinoma (GAC) metastasis. Peritoneal carcinomatosis (PC) is resistant to current therapies and confer poor prognosis, highlighting the need to identify new therapeutic targets. CD47 conveys a "don't eat me" signal to myeloid cells upon binding its receptor SIRPα, which helps tumor cells circumvent macrophage phagocytosis and evade innate immune responses. Previous studies demonstrated that the blockade of CD47 alone results in limited clinical benefits, suggesting that other t...

Construction of an anoikis ‒related prognostic signature to predict immunotherapeutic response and prognosis in hepatocellular carcinoma
CONCLUSION: A successful anoikis-related prognostic signature and corresponding clinical nomogram were established, which might facilitate better predictions of prognosis and therapeutic responses for HCC patients.PMID:37736789 | DOI:10.1007/s00432-023-05428-0

Cold snare endoscopic mucosal resection for colon polyps: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusion CS-EMR demonstrated an excellent safety profile for colon polyps, with variable recurrence rates based on polyp size and histology. Large prospective studies are needed to validate these findings. Traumatic sigmoid colon rupture due to breast cancer metastasis: a case report
Clin J Gastroenterol. 2023 Sep 21. doi: 10.1007/s12328-023-01859-x. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe metastasis of breast cancer to the gastrointestinal tract is rare. Herein, we presented the case of an 85-year-old woman who had a history of invasive lobular carcinoma and experienced complete colon rupture due to relatively low-energy trauma. The patient underwent bilateral total mastectomy and axillary dissection following preoperative chemotherapy 6 years ago. She had a local recurrence 2 years after the surgery and underwent chemotherapy. Subsequently, the cancer metastasized to the thoracolumbar area and retroperiton...

Unveiling the anti-cancer mechanisms of calotropin: Insights into cell growth inhibition, cell cycle arrest, and metabolic regulation in human oral squamous carcinoma cells (HSC-3)
CONCLUSION: Overall, our findings shed an experimental evidence on how calotropin inhibits the HSC-3 oral squamous cancer cell growth, highlighting the drug's potential as a treatment for oral cancer. Further, investigation on in-vivo experiment is warranted to explore its potential mechanism of action and to develop a novel drug towards clinical trial.PMID:37731845 | PMC:PMC10507650 | DOI:10.1016/j.jobcr.2023.09.002
