Comparison of the effectiveness of pulsed radiofrequency of the suprascapular nerve and intra-articular corticosteroid injection for hemiplegic shoulder pain management
J Integr Neurosci. 2021 Sep 30;20(3):687-693. doi: 10.31083/j.jin2003073.ABSTRACTMany patients complain of hemiplegic shoulder pain following stroke. Here, the effectiveness of pulsed radiofrequency stimulation of the suprascapular nerve is compared with intra-articular corticosteroid injection for chronic hemiplegic shoulder pain following stroke. This single-center, prospective, randomized controlled study included 20 patients with hemiplegic shoulder pain after stroke, randomly assigned to the pulsed radiofrequency and intra-articular corticosteroid injection treatment groups (n = 10 in each). Hemiplegic shoulder pain s...

ERLEADA ® (apalutamide) Oral Presentations Demonstrate Importance of Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) as Key Efficacy Indicator and Show Strong Patient Adherence Rates
September 11, 2021 (RARITAN, N.J.) – The Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson today announced new data demonstrating robust prostate-specific antigen (PSA) response and strong adherence rates in patients with non-metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (nmCRPC) treated with ERLEADA® (apalutamide) in the real-world clinical setting. The strong PSA response was also seen in a separate post-hoc analysis that showed a correlation between rapid and deep PSA response and prolonged survival in both metastatic castration-sensitive prostate cancer (mCSPC) and nmCRPC. The post-hoc analysis also suppor...

The Use of Corticosteroids for Cardiopulmonary Bypass in Adults
AbstractPurpose of ReviewCardiopulmonary bypass for on-pump cardiac surgery induces a systemic inflammation that may contribute to postoperative major complications. To reduce this inflammatory response in patients undergoing heart surgery, the perioperative use of anti-inflammatory corticosteroids has long been recommended to improve clinical outcomes. However, the efficacy and safety of steroids remain still unclear.Recent FindingsWe reviewed recent published literature, including the large clinical trials DECS and SIRS and the two meta-analysis by Dvirnik et al. (2018) and Ng et al. (2020), on mortality and major postop...

E-060 Endovascular treatment for intracranial giant cell arteritis with angioplasty, stenting, and intra-arterial calcium channel blockers
ConclusionsEndovascular treatment, including PTA (with or without stenting) and CCB infusion, may be effective in medically-refractory GCA with intracranial arterial stenosis but complication rates are considerable. The efficacy of CCB monotherapy implicates vascular smooth muscle dysfunction in the pathogenesis of intracranial GCA.Calcium-channel blocker infusion as monotherapy for intracranial giant cell arteritis. Pre-treatment angiography (lateral right internal carotid artery projection) shows severe focal supraclinoid ICA stenosis (curved white arrow, 1A). Post-verapamil infusion (20mg, 15 min delay) angiogram (1B) s...

Contrast-Induced Encephalopathy after Cerebral Angiogram: A Case Series and Review of Literature
We present 4 individual cases of CIE who presented with stroke-mimic symptoms following surgery with localized iodixanol or ioversol injection. We outline a clinical timeline of all patients, showing that CIE follows a general pattern of delayed onset, worsening symptomology, and ultimately full recovery. All patients received IV hydration, corticosteroids, or both as part of their treatment protocol.Case Rep Neurol 2021;13:405 –413

Controversial cardiovascular and hematologic comorbidities in atopic dermatitis
AbstractAtopic dermatitis ’ (AD) systemic involvement is wide-reaching. The cardiovascular and hematological comorbidities of AD have potential for considerable economic and physical burden; however, data surrounding the association between these comorbidities and AD is controversial. This review discusses the cardiovascul ar and hematological comorbidities of AD, detailing the conflicting evidence, pathophysiology, and connection to medications. A PubMed search was conducted for studies detailing the association of cardiovascular and hematological comorbidities with AD, providing approximately 30 results. Additional sea...

Neonatal outcomes and risk of neonatal sepsis in an expectantly managed cohort of late preterm prelabor rupture of membranes
CONCLUSION: Expectant management of LpPROM should be encouraged especially between 34+0 and 34+6 weeks', when the burden of prematurity is the greatest. Antibiotics may have beneficial effects, while careful consideration should be given to antenatal corticosteroids until future studies specifically address LpPROM.PMID:33857797 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejogrb.2021.03.036
