Evidence for therapeutic interventions for hemiplegic shoulder pain during the chronic stage of stroke: a review.
CONCLUSIONS: Positive outcomes were noted with the use of corticosteroid injections and electrical stimulation and conflicting results were seen regarding the use of BTx-A. Focal Cerebral Arteriopathy Clinical Sciences
Conclusions—Corticosteroid treatment may provide additional benefit over AT for improved neurological outcome in childhood AIS because of focal cerebral arteriopathy. Larger prospective studies are warranted to further investigate these differences and understand mechanisms by which steroids modify outcome.

ConclusionThese guidelines inform the management of ICH based on evidence for the effects of treatments in RCTs. Outcome after ICH remains poor, prioritizing further RCTs of interventions to improve outcome.

Changing course of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) after stroke: Excessive disease activity in a MS patient after cerebral infarction (P1.122)
CONCLUSIONS: This is a rare case of MS exacerbation after stroke in a patient with long-standing MS. The clear temporal relation with an increase of MS disease activity after stroke suggests possible interactions. Differential effects of sympathetic nervous system and hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis on systemic immune cells after severe experimental stroke.
In conclusion, mediators of the SNS and the HPA axis differentially affect the systemic immune system after stroke. Moreover, our findings suggest a negative-feedback of corticosteroids on the sympathetic axis which may control the post-stroke stress-reaction. This complex interplay between the HPA and the SNS after stroke has to be considered when targeting the neurohormonal systems in the post acute phase of severe stroke. Traditional Chinese Medicine Decreases the Stroke Risk of Systemic Corticosteroid Treatment in Dermatitis: A Nationwide Population-Based Study.
This study identified 235,220 dermatitis patients and same comorbidity matched subjects between 2000 and 2009 from database of NHRI in Taiwan. The two cohorts were followed until December 31, 2011. The primary outcome of interest was new diagnosis of stroke. The crude hazard ratio (HR) for future stroke among dermatitis patients treated with systemic corticosteroid was 1.40 (95% CI, 1.34-1.45; P < 0.0001) and TCM was 1.09 (95% CI, 1.05-1.13; P < 0.0001). Abstract Ischemic stroke is caused by critical reductions in blood flow to a part of brain or spinal cord. Microglia are the resident immune cells of the central nervous system, and they respond to stroke by assuming an activated phenotype that releases cytotoxic cytokines, reactive oxygen species, proteases, and other factors.
