ERLEADA ® (apalutamide) Oral Presentations Demonstrate Importance of Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) as Key Efficacy Indicator and Show Strong Patient Adherence Rates

September 11, 2021 (RARITAN, N.J.) – The Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson &Johnson today announced new data demonstrating robust prostate-specific antigen (PSA) response and strong adherence rates in patients with non-metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (nmCRPC) treated with ERLEADA® (apalutamide) in the real-world clinical setting. The strong PSA response was also seen in a separate post-hoc analysis that showed a correlation between rapid and deep PSA response and prolonged survival in both metastatic castration-sensitive prostate cancer (mCSPC) and nmCRPC. The post-hoc analysis also supports the use of PSA as a predictive biomarker in the treatment of patients with advanced prostate cancer. These findings were presented during two podium sessions at the virtual American Urological Association Annual Meeting (AUA 2021), September 10-13. The post-hoc analysis (Abstract #PD34-11) of the Phase 3 TITAN and SPARTAN studies examined PSA kinetics in 2,259 patients with either mCSPC (TITAN) or nmCRPC (SPARTAN). Results showed that patients with advanced prostate cancer, whether mCSPC or nmCRPC, treated with ERLEADA® plus androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) had rapid, deep and durable PSA declines as early as three months and continuing beyond a year after initiating ERLEADA® therapy.1 In mCSPC (TITAN), the percentage of patients with a PSA decline of ≥50 percent or ≥90 percent or with an undetectable PSA (50 percent reduction in PSA...

ACP Journals Effectiveness and Safety of Direct Oral Anticoagulants Versus Warfarin in Patients With Valvular Atrial Fibrillation So we can use DOACs now for valvular Afib (See study above), we've been using DOACs for other VTEs, and recently shown to be safe in even cancer-related VTEs. Is there any reason (maybe poor renal function) to continue using warfarin?

AbstractObjectiveTo determine the safety and efficacy of image-guided retrocalcaneal bursa corticosteroid injection for retrocalcaneal bursitis.Materials and methodsAfter IRB approval, all fluoroscopically guided and ultrasound-guided retrocalcaneal bursa injections (2013 –2019) were retrospectively evaluated. Pre-procedure US and radiographs were scored by 2 blinded radiologists in consensus for Achilles tendinosis and retrocalcaneal bursitis (0–3 scale), Achilles enthesopathy (present/absent), and Haglund deformity (present/absent). Pre- and post-procedure pain scores (0–10 scale) evaluated short-term r...

AbstractBackground and purposeLumbar spine MRI can help guide the choice of corticosteroid injection in pain management. We investigated whether patient-reported symptom information from a questionnaire could improve agreement in the choice of type, level, and side of injection.Materials and methodsIn this prospective observational study, 120 patients (median age 64, 70 men) were recruited from patients referred for pain management. After informed consent, they completed electronic questionnaires that obtained symptom information for later use during MRI reviews. In 3 research arms, 6 radiologists chose injections that wou...

ConclusionsThese findings indicate that trait mindfulness facets may not independently affect BP and HR responses to acute emotional stress among prehypertensive but otherwise healthy adults with normal stress levels, prior to mindfulness training. Mindfulness-based interventions may therefore be necessary to engender benefits of mindfulness on stress physiology, as a putative biological mechanism of cardiovascular risk reduction and health promotion.Trial registration number and date of registration: NCT02371317, 1/21/2015

The objective of this study was to examine the current state of literature on group prenatal care and its impact on maternal outcomes and racial disparities in adverse maternal outcomes. Design: We conducted a scoping review of literature published between January 2010 and December 2020 using the PRISMA-ScR reporting checklist. Methods: Eligible studies were identified using key words and MeSH terms in PubMed, CINAHL, and Web of Science. Inclusion criteria were studies that were (a) conducted in the United States; (b) published between January 2010 and December 2020; (c) in English; (d) focused on the primary...

Local anesthetic systemic toxicity (LAST) is a life-threatening event caused by elevated local anesthetic plasma concentration. It is often unrecognized or misdiagnosed. Peripartum women are at increased risk for toxicity due to pregnancy-related physiological changes. Rising serum drug levels can cause cellular level impairment of mitochondria and voltage-gated ion channels leading to a cascade of symptoms that can end in cardiac arrest. Local anesthetic systemic toxicity can mimic other maternal pathologies but may be considered if local anesthetics have been used. Published treatment guidelines for this event include li...

Purpose: Promoting women's health during the interconception period is critical for the health of future pregnancies. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study to better understand interconception mental health and wellbeing using a convenience sample of women recruited on social media who completed an online survey. Results: Women who participated in the survey (N = 146) were 1 to 4 years since last pregnancy, primarily non-Hispanic White (81.2%), with an average age of 30 years (SD = 5.0; range = 19-47 years); 20% were insured by Medicaid. Depression, anxiety, stress, social support, mindfulness, and re...
