Comparison of risk of stroke in patients treated with peritoneal dialysis and hemodialysis: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Conclusions: We observed that PD patients were less likely to develop hemorrhagic stroke than HD patients, and the risk for ischemic stroke was significantly higher for PD patients than for HD patients among the non-Asian patients. Patient survival and technique failure in continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis patients with prior stroke.
Conclusions: Continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis patients with prior stroke had high rates of all-cause mortality and technique failure compared with those without prior stroke. Older age, lower BMI, and time to the first episode of peritonitis were independent risk factors of all-cause mortality in patients with prior stroke. Risk of Stroke in Long-term Dialysis Patients Compared With the General Population
Conclusions: Patients undergoing dialysis are at elevated risk of stroke. Patients undergoing PD appear to be less likely to develop hemorrhagic stroke than those undergoing HD. Comprehensive control of hypertension and diabetes is necessary when delivering dialysis treatment.

Warfarin Use, Stroke, and Bleeding Risk among Pre-Existing Atrial Fibrillation US Veterans Transitioning to Dialysis
In this study, we validated risk scores for stroke and bleeding in this population and assessed risk of stroke and bleeding among warfarin users compared to nonusers.Methods: We utilized a cohort of 28,620 pre-dialysis US veterans transitioning to hemodialysis between October 2007 and March 2015. Incident rates for the risks of stroke and bleeding were ascertained based upon CHA2DS2-VASc or HAS-BLED scores, respectively. Race, Ethnicity, and State-by-State Geographic Variation in Hemorrhagic Stroke in Dialysis Patients.
CONCLUSION: Race and ethnicity, or other factors that covary with these, appear to explain a substantial portion of state-by-state geographic variation in hemorrhagic stroke. This finding suggests that the factors underlying the high rate of hemorrhagic strokes in dialysis patients are likely to be system-wide and that further investigations into regional variations in clinical practices are unlikely to identify large opportunities for preventive interventions for this disorder. Young stroke patients are at high risk for subsequent end-stage renal disease: a population-based observational study
Conclusions Increased risk of ESRD in stroke patients is confirmed in Taiwan, and male patients between ages 25 and 44 years were at higher risk of ESRD compared with their counterparts in the general population. The clinical implication of our results is to closely monitor renal function in stroke patients, particularly those of younger age.

Conclusions Stroke risk increases linearly and additively with declining GFR and increasing albuminuria. CKD staging may also be a useful clinical tool for identifying people who may benefit most from interventions to reduce cardiovascular risk.
