Clinical utility of serum glial fibrillary acidic protein in glial neoplasm
CONCLUSION: Increasing serum GFAP levels in the preoperative period correlate with higher tumor grade, especially grade III and grade IV tumors. The serum GFAP levels showed relation to tumor volume, both before and after surgery.PMID:36761257 | PMC:PMC9899464 | DOI:10.25259/SNI_889_2022

ASA: Stem Cell Transplant Improves Vasculopathy in Sickle Cell Patients
THURSDAY, Feb. 9, 2023 -- For adults with sickle cell disease (SCD), hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) seems to improve or prevent development of vasculopathies, according to a study presented at the American Stroke Association...

Exosomal miR-128-3p reversed fibrinogen-mediated inhibition of oligodendrocyte progenitor cell differentiation and remyelination after cerebral ischemia
CONCLUSIONS: Fibrinogen deposition inhibits remyelination after ischemic damage and NSC-derived exosomal miR-128-3p promotes OPC differentiation into OLs by suppressing BMP signaling, indicating that NSC-derived exosomal miR-128-3p represents a potential therapeutic target for ischemic stroke.PMID:36756722 | DOI:10.1111/cns.14113

An overview of hyperbaric oxygen preconditioning against ischemic stroke
This study comprehensively reviewed the pathophysiology of IS and revealed the underlying mechanism of HBO-PC in protection against IS. The preventive effects of HBO-PC against IS may include inducing antioxidant, anti-inflammation, and anti-apoptosis capacity; activating autophagy and immune responses; upregulating heat shock proteins, hypoxia-inducible factor-1, and erythropoietin; and exerting protective effects upon the blood-brain barrier. In addition, HBO-PC may be considered a safe and effective method to prevent IS in combination with stem cell therapy. Although the benefits of HBO-PC on IS have been widely observe...

Exosomal ZEB1 Derived from Neural Stem Cells Reduces Inflammation Injury in OGD/R-Treated Microglia via the GPR30-TLR4-NF- κB Axis
Neurochem Res. 2023 Jan 30. doi: 10.1007/s11064-023-03866-3. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIschemic stroke (IS) is the most common type of stroke and the second leading cause of death overall. Neural stem cells play protective roles in IS, but the underlying mechanism remains to be determined. Neural stem cells (NSC) were obtained from the fetal brain tissue of C57BL/6J mice. NSC-derived exosomes (NSC-Exos) were identified in the conditioned medium. Internalization of NSC-Exos was analyzed by fluorescence microscopy. In vitro microglia ischemic stroke injury model was induced using oxygen glucose deprivation/re-oxygenation...

Synergistic therapeutic effects of intracerebral transplantation of human modified bone marrow-derived stromal cells (SB623) and voluntary exercise with running wheel in a rat model of ischemic stroke
CONCLUSIONS: This study suggests that combination therapy of intracerebral transplantation SB623 cells and voluntary exercise with RW achieves robust neurological recovery and synergistically promotes endogenous neurogenesis and angiogenesis after cerebral ischemia, possibly through a mechanism involving the up-regulation of BDNF and VEGF.PMID:36691091 | DOI:10.1186/s13287-023-03236-4
