Characteristics and long ‐term survival of patients with left ventricular non‐compaction cardiomyopathy
ConclusionsOur study questions the criteria being used for the diagnosis of LVNC. Further evaluation of CMR variables and association of these findings with demographic variables and survival is mandatory.

Elevated plasma WIF ‐1 levels are associated with worse prognosis in heart failure with pulmonary hypertension
ConclusionsThe present study demonstrated that LHF-PH patients have higher plasma WIF-1 levels than healthy controls, suggesting that plasma WIF-1 may be a potential future prognostic biomarker in LHF-PH. Its prognostic capability could be further refined by including it in a multi-marker panel. Further studies are needed to establish the potential role of WIF-1 in LHF-PH pathophysiology in larger cohorts to determine its clinical applicability.

EndMT-derived mesenchymal stem cells: a new therapeutic target to atherosclerosis treatment
Mol Cell Biochem. 2022 Sep 9. doi: 10.1007/s11010-022-04544-8. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCardiovascular diseases, such as coronary artery disease and stroke, are the main threats to human health worldwide. Atherosclerosis, a chronic inflammatory disorder, plays a role as an initiator of all of the above-mentioned diseases. Cell therapy for diseases has attracted widespread attention. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are a type of stem cell that still exist in adults and have the characteristics of self-renewal ability, pluripotent differentiation potential, immunomodulation, tissue regeneration, anti-inflammation and low ...

Oral milrinone for management of refractory right ventricular failure in patients with left ventricular assist devices
ConclusionsOral milrinone appears safe for long-term use in the outpatient setting when combined with therapeutic monitoring in this complex medical cohort with limited management options. Further study is needed to ascertain whether this treatment is effective in reducing heart failure symptoms and admissions.

Preventive Effect of Bone Marrow Mononuclear Cell Transplantation on Acute Myocardial Infarction-Induced Heart Failure: A Meta-analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials
ConclusionAutologous injection of BM-MNC in the setting of AMI may be associated with decreased risk of hospitalization of heart failure in the long term. However, its effect on all-cause mortality and stroke rate is questionable.

New Approaches for Enhancement of the Efficacy of Mesenchymal Stem Cell-Derived Exosomes in Cardiovascular Diseases
Tissue Eng Regen Med. 2022 Jul 22. doi: 10.1007/s13770-022-00469-x. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCardiovascular diseases (CVDs) remain a major health concern worldwide, where mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) therapy gives great promise in their management through their regenerative and paracrine actions. In recent years, many studies have shifted from the use of transplanted stem cells to their secreted exosomes for the management of various CVDs and cardiovascular-related diseases including atherosclerosis, stroke, myocardial infarction, heart failure, peripheral arterial diseases, and pulmonary hypertension. In different m...

The Role of CMV Infection in Primary Lesions, Development and Clinical Expression of Atherosclerosis
J Clin Med. 2022 Jul 1;11(13):3832. doi: 10.3390/jcm11133832.ABSTRACTThe number of deaths related to cardiovascular disease is increasing every year, despite all available therapies and the aggressive campaigns for lifestyle modification and prevention of risk factors. Atherosclerosis is a complex process underlying cardiovascular disease. Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is often associated to atherosclerosis and its clinical expression such as coronary heart disease, stroke, or peripheral artery disease. CMV infection may promote acute atherosis within placentas from women with preeclampsia and it may also accelerate atherosclerosi...

The Footprint of Kynurenine Pathway in Cardiovascular Diseases
Int J Tryptophan Res. 2022 Jun 28;15:11786469221096643. doi: 10.1177/11786469221096643. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTKynurenine pathway is the main route of tryptophan metabolism and produces several metabolites with various biologic properties. It has been uncovered that several cardiovascular diseases are associated with the overactivation of kynurenine pathway and kynurenine and its metabolites have diagnostic and prognostic value in cardiovascular diseases. Furthermore, it was found that several kynurenine metabolites can differently affect cardiovascular health. For instance, preclinical studies have shown that kynurenine...

Contemporary Mechanical Circulatory Support With Continuous-Flow Biventricular Assist Devices: A Systematic Review
As the incidence of heart failure increases, so too has that of biventricular failure. While transplantation remains the gold standard therapy for end-stage heart failure, the limited organ supply has increased the need for durable mechanical circulatory support. We therefore sought to conduct a systematic review of continuous-flow ventricular assist devices in a biventricular configuration (CF-BiVAD). An electronic search of PubMed and Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL) databases was performed using the keyword “BIVAD.” Studies were reviewed to identify discrete variables, including impl...
