Probucol Trial for Secondary Prevention of Atherosclerotic Events in Patients with Coronary Heart Disease (PROSPECTIVE).

Mitochondrial Deacetylase Sirt3 Reduces Vascular Dysfunction and Hypertension While Sirt3 Depletion in Essential Hypertension Is Linked to Vascular Inflammation and Oxidative Stress.
Conclusions: We suggest that Sirt3 depletion in hypertension promotes endothelial dysfunction, vascular hypertrophy, vascular inflammation and end-organ damage. Causal Associations Between Serum Bilirubin Levels and Decreased Stroke Risk: A Two-Sample Mendelian Randomization Study.
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings provide evidence of significant causal relationship between high levels of bilirubin and decreased stroke risk in Korean population in agreement with observational approaches. This highlights the potential for bilirubin to serve as a therapeutic target for oxidative stress-related diseases such as stroke and suggests that previous findings were not a consequence of unmeasured confounding. Xanthoangelol Prevents Ox-LDL–Induced Endothelial Cell Injury by Activating Nrf2/ARE Signaling
Conclusions: These data suggest that XAG cytoprotects against Ox-LDL–induced cell injury through activating Nrf2/ARE–mediated antioxidative stress. Cumulatively, these findings show that EX has the potential to prevent and treat AS.

Interaction between warfarin and astaxanthin: A case report
This report explains the potential interaction between warfarin and astaxanthin in a 69-year-old Thai woman with history of ischemic stroke. Before taking astaxanthin, the patient used constant doses of warfarin, atenolol, digoxin, aspirin, omeprazole, and simvastatin concomitantly for 17 days without any signs and symptoms of adverse events. Deficiency of NADH dehydrogenase [ubiquinone], the mitochondrial complex I, represents an emerging mechanism of cardiovascular diseases. Ndufc2, a subunit of mitochondrial complex I, is involved in stroke development. We aimed to gain some insights on the role of Ndufc2 into acute coronary syndrome (ACS) through the assessment of its gene expression, along with that of anti-oxidant proteins and of mitochondrial function parameters, in circulating mononuclear cells (PBMCs) of ACS versus stable angina (SA) patients.
