Comparison of Associations of Outcomes After Stroke With Estimated GFR Using Chinese Modifications of the MDRD Study and CKD-EPI Creatinine Equations: Results From the China National Stroke Registry
Background: The CKD-EPI (Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration) creatinine equation estimates glomerular filtration rate (GFR) more precisely than the MDRD (Modification of Diet in Renal Disease) Study equation. The risk implications of this equation have been compared with the MDRD Study equation in different demographic and clinical characteristics. However, whether a Chinese modification of this equation performs better than a Chinese modification of the MDRD Study equation in risk prediction in Chinese patients with stroke is unknown.Study Design: Prospective cohort study, China National Stroke Registry.Set...

Relationship between Stroke and Mortality in Dialysis Patients.
CONCLUSIONS: Dialysis recipients have high mortality after a stroke with corresponding decrements in remaining years of life. Poststroke mortality does not differ by race. PMID: 25318759 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Comparison of risk of stroke in patients treated with peritoneal dialysis and hemodialysis: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Conclusions: We observed that PD patients were less likely to develop hemorrhagic stroke than HD patients, and the risk for ischemic stroke was significantly higher for PD patients than for HD patients among the non-Asian patients. However, our findings could be biased due to the heterogeneity of the included studies. PMID: 31296101 [PubMed - in process]

Increased history of ischemic stroke and decreased neurocognitive performance in children with chronic kidney disease
ConclusionsChildren with CKD have an increased incidence of prior ischemic stroke compared to the general pediatric population. A stroke history was associated with poorer performance on neurocognitive measures.Graphical abstract

Prevalence and risk factors of urinary incontinence for post‐stroke inpatients in Southern China
ConclusionsThe prevalence of UI among post‐stroke inpatients is high. Stroke inpatients looked after by health care assistant, hemorrhagic stroke, mixed stroke, parietal lobe lesion, chronic cough, aphasia, and post‐stroke depression were high‐risk groups for UI. These patients should be targeted when planning intervention programs. Neurourol. Urodynam. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Patient survival and technique failure in continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis patients with prior stroke.
Conclusions: Continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis patients with prior stroke had high rates of all-cause mortality and technique failure compared with those without prior stroke. Older age, lower BMI, and time to the first episode of peritonitis were independent risk factors of all-cause mortality in patients with prior stroke. Incident Atrial Fibrillation and the Risk of Stroke in Adults with Chronic Kidney Disease: The Stockholm CREAtinine Measurements (SCREAM) Project.
CONCLUSIONS: Patients with CKD who develop atrial fibrillation are at higher risk of stroke and death. PMID: 30030271 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

High Neutrophil/Lymphocyte Ratio as an Independent Risk Factor for the First Occurrence of Stroke in Peritoneal Dialysis Patients.
CONCLUSION: High NLR was an independent risk factor for the first occurrence of stroke in PD patients. PMID: 32655023 [PubMed - in process]

Urinary incontinence after ischemic stroke: Clinical and urodynamic studies
ConclusionsIncontinent patients showed a worse functional outcome compared to continent patients. Post‐stroke incontinence may be associated with different urodynamic patterns, each of which may necessitate different treatment strategies. Urodynamic findings in patients with ischemic stroke vary depending upon timing of the study. Neurourol. Urodynam. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Risk of Stroke in Long-term Dialysis Patients Compared With the General Population
Conclusions: Patients undergoing dialysis are at elevated risk of stroke. Patients undergoing PD appear to be less likely to develop hemorrhagic stroke than those undergoing HD. Comprehensive control of hypertension and diabetes is necessary when delivering dialysis treatment.

Relationship between History of Ischemic Stroke and All-Cause Mortality in Incident Dialysis Patients
Conclusion: The present study revealed that history of ischemic stroke before dialysis initiation was associated with all-cause, non-CV-related, and infection-related mortality and stroke event after dialysis initiation during maintenance dialysis.Nephron

Acute Kidney Injury as a Risk Factor for Cerebrovascular Disease Outcome among Patients Presenting with Stroke in King Abdulaziz University Hospital, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia: A Retrospective Cohort Study
Saudi J Kidney Dis Transpl. 2021 Jan-Feb;32(1):60-68. doi: 10.4103/1319-2442.318549.ABSTRACTPatients suffering from stroke may develop different complications including acute kidney injury (AKI). AKI affects mortality among the stroke patients. The association between stroke and AKI despite extensive research has been not completely understood. The study aimed to determine an AKI as an independent poor risk factor of cerebrovascular disease outcome among the stroke patients. Our objectives were to estimate AKI incidence among stroke patients at King Abdulaziz University Hospital (KAUH), Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, between 2013 a...
