Is endoscopic third ventriculostomy safe and efficient in the treatment of obstructive chronic hydrocephalus in adults? A prospective clinical and MRI study
ConclusionETV seems to be a safe and efficient alternative to shunt for chronic hydrocephalus with obstruction; the clinical improvement is usual and ventricular size decreases slightly.

Aqueductal CSF Stroke Volume Is Increased in Patients with Idiopathic Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus and Decreases after Shunt Surgery ADULT BRAIN
CONCLUSIONS: Aqueductal CSF stroke volume was increased in patients with idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus and decreased after shunt surgery, whereas retrograde aqueductal net flow did not seem to be specific for patients with idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus. On the basis of the results, the usefulness of CSF flow parameters to predict outcome after shunt surgery seem to be limited.

Accidental ultrasound detection of Galen vein aneurysm at term pregnancy
Introduction: Galen vein aneurysm is the most common congenital arteriovenous (AV) malformation. It consists of an arteriovenous shunt dilating vascular bed. Brain structures of the posterior cranial fossa are often compressed by this dilatation. The most often manifestations are ischemic changes of neonatal brain as a stroke, steal phenomenon, hydrocephalus or heart failure.

Opposing CSF hydrodynamic trends found in the cerebral aqueduct and prepontine cistern following shunt treatment in patients with normal pressure hydrocephalus
ConclusionsAlthough several studies have quantified the changes in aqueductal flow between hydrocephalic groups and controls, few studies have investigated prepontine cistern flow. Our study was the first to investigate both regions in the same patients for NPH pre- and post- treatment. Following shunt treatment, the aqueductal CSF metrics decreased toward control values, while the prepontine cistern metrics trended up (not significantly) from the normal values established in this study. Does Phase-Contrast Imaging through the Cerebral Aqueduct Predict the Outcome of Lumbar CSF Drainage or Shunt Surgery in Patients with Suspected Adult Hydrocephalus? ADULT BRAIN
CONCLUSIONS: This study suggests that the results of phase-contrast MR imaging through the cerebral aqueduct alone should not be used to select patients for diagnostic or therapeutic CSF diversion.

Vertebrobasilar Dolichoectasia Causing Symptomatic Hydrocephalus Due to Third Ventricular Compression
Vertebrobasilar dolichoectasia sometimes presents with symptoms related to mass effect like cranial nerve palsies, or with ischemia or hemorrhage. Symptomatic hydrocephalus as a complication of vertebrobasilar dolichoectasia is extremely uncommon. Furthermore, there are few cases of vertebrobasilar dolichoectasia, in which cerebrospinal fluid flow disorder mechanisms are clearly demonstrated in neuroimaging findings. Here, we describe a patient with vertebrobasilar dolichoectasia who presented with symptomatic hydrocephalus due to direct compression against the third ventricle, which was immediately relieved by ventriculoperitoneal shunt.

Quality of life among children who had undergone ventriculoperitoneal shunt surgery
Conclusion: Children who underwent VP shunt face various health-related problems in different domains and low QOL. Although cognitive domain was the most affected, multiple surgeries had the most significant impact on QOL. Appropriately focused interventions and holistic management are essential to improve the QOL of children undergoing VP shunt.

Effect of choice of treatment modality on the incidence of shunt-dependent hydrocephalus after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage.

Subcutaneous bone flap storage after emergency craniectomy: cost-effectiveness and rate of resorption.
CONCLUSIONS Craniectomy with autologous bone cranioplasty using subcutaneous pocket storage is safe and compares favorably to cryopreservation in terms of resorption and favorably to a custom synthetic implant in terms of cost. While randomized data are required to definitively prove the superiority of one method, subcutaneous preservation has enough practical advantages with low risk to warrant routine use for most patients. Increased Plasma Galectin-3 Preceding the Development of Delayed Cerebral Infarction and Eventual Poor Outcome in Non-Severe Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage
This study included 83 consecutive patients diagnosed with aneurysmal SAH of resuscitated World Federation of Neurological Surgeons (WFNS) grades 1 –3. Plasma galectin-3 levels were once measured on days 1–3 (the day after clipping or coiling).
