ConclusionsThe protective effect of PFO repair remains unclear. However, is not associated with an increased incidence of stroke or postoperative mortality following LTx. The Impact of Statin Therapy on Neurological Events Following Left Ventricular Assist System Implantation in Advanced Heart Failure
Stroke is a leading cause of disability and death in advanced heart failure patients supported with continuous-flow left ventricular assist systems (CF-LVAS). Statins (HMG-CoA Reductase Inhibitors) reduce the risk of major cardiovascular and neurological events, such as stroke, but their impact has not been evaluated in patients implanted with CF-LVAS. We sought to explore the association between use of statin therapy and subsequent occurrence of neurological events, particularly stroke, following CF-LVAS implantation.

Optimization of Left Ventricle Size After VAD Implantation Prevents Incidence of Cerebral Infarction
Stroke after ventricular assist device (VAD) implantation is a critical complication. Previous studies have noted the distance between the inflow cannula and the left ventricular (LV) septum, as well as an angulation of the inflow cannula from the apical axis, related to the incidence of stroke. In the early phase after VAD implantation, diuresis is caused by improved renal blood flow, furthermore, rapid volume reduction of LV greatly changes circulating plasma volume, resulting in increased stroke risk; however, little is known about an appropriate indicator for the prevention of this phenomenon.
