Rapid learning curve for Solitaire FR stent retriever therapy: evidence from roll-in and randomised patients in the SWIFT trial
Conclusions Thrombectomy in AIS using the Solitaire stent retriever device can be performed safely and effectively when used by experienced neurointerventionalists without previous experience with the device. Trial registration number The SWIFT study is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, number NCT 01054560.

Stroke
This 18-month-old girl developed left-sided focal seizures, left arm and leg weakness 3 days after an uncomplicated appendicectomy. She had been previously well, and the surgery was uneventful. An urgent cranial MR scan was performed under general anaesthetic within 12 h of the onset of symptoms. Look at the selected images from this study and answer the following questions. Read on to confirm the answers and learn more about the use of diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) in this condition. Questions There is evidence of acute intracerebral haemorrhage. (True or false?) The abnormality is in the left middle cerebral...

A Magnetic Resonance Angiography-Based Study Comparing Machine Learning and Clinical Evaluation: Screening Intracranial Regions Associated with the Hemorrhagic Stroke of Adult Moyamoya Disease
Moyamoya disease (MMD) is a chronic occlusive cerebrovascular disease characterized by bilateral progressive steno-occlusive changes of unknown etiology at the distal portion of the internal carotid artery or proximal portion of the anterior arteries and middle cerebral arteries, accompanied by the presence of an abnormal vessel network (moyamoya vessels) at the base of the brain.1 The incidence and prevalence of MMD are increasing worldwide, which may indicate an increase in the number of MMD patients or an underestimation of the actual number of MMD patients in the past.

Can machine learning of post-procedural cone-beam CT images in acute ischemic stroke improve the detection of 24-h hemorrhagic transformation? A preliminary study
ConclusionML demonstrates high-sensitivity but low-accuracy 24-h HT prediction in AIS. The automated CB-CT imaging evaluation resizes sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy rates of visual interpretation reported in the literature so far. A standardized quantitative interpretation of CB-CT may be warranted to overcome the inter-operator variability.

A brain CT-based approach for predicting and analyzing stroke-associated pneumonia from intracerebral hemorrhage
DiscussionOur findings suggest that our method is effective in classifying the development of pneumonia based on brain CT scans. Furthermore, we identified distinct characteristics, such as volume and distribution, of ICH in four different types of SAP.

Data from New VOYAGER PAD Analyses at ACC.22 Reinforce Benefit of XARELTO ® (rivaroxaban) Plus Aspirin in Patients with Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) and Various Co-Morbid Conditions
RARITAN, N.J., April 1, 2022 – The Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson today announced data from new analyses from the Phase 3 VOYAGER PAD clinical trial reinforcing the benefit of the XARELTO® (rivaroxaban) vascular dose (2.5 mg twice daily plus aspirin 100 mg once daily) in reducing severe vascular events in patients with PAD after lower-extremity revascularization (LER), a procedure that restores blood flow to the legs. Data from the two analyses demonstrate the role that the XARELTO® vascular dose plays in PAD patients with and without chronic kidney disease (CKD) and in PAD patients with and ...

Isolated middle cerebral artery dissection: a systematic review
Abstract Acute stroke can be missed in the emergency department, particularly in younger patients and in those with more vague symptoms such as headache or dizziness. Cervicocephalic dissections are one group of etiologies for acute stroke in the young. While cervicocephalic dissections are not uncommon in clinical practice, isolated middle cerebral artery dissection (MCAD) has been rarely reported as a cause for stroke. We sought to review the clinical implications and pathophysiology of an isolated MCAD. We searched the medical literature for isolated MCAD in clinical stroke patients using MEDLINE, HighWire, an...

Prevention and Management of Poststroke Complications
This article provides a synopsis of the immediate and delayed medical complications of stroke, with an emphasis on prevention and management of these complications. Recent Findings: Meta-analysis of the trials for endovascular treatment of acute stroke shows no significant increase in hemorrhagic events. Rehabilitation guidelines published by the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association in 2016 aid in providing the best clinical practice for patients with stroke, from the time of their initial hospitalization to their return to the community. Summary: Medical complications from stroke are common and are...

Machine learning approach for hemorrhagic transformation prediction: Capturing predictors' interaction
ConclusionCerebral microbleeds, NIHSS, and infarction size were identified as HT predictors. The best predicting models were RFC and GBC capable of capturing nonlinear interaction between predictors. Predictor interaction suggests a dynamic, rather than, fixed cutoff risk value for any of these predictors.
