COVID-19 and neurologic manifestations: a synthesis from the child neurologist's corner
CONCLUSIONS: Various neurologic manifestations have been associated with children's SARS-CoV-2 infection. It is important to identify and give them proper and opportune treatment because they can be potentially grave and life-threatening; some can lead to long-lasting sequelae. Different neuro-pathophysiological mechanisms have been proposed, however, a causal relationship between SARS-CoV-2 infection and neurologic manifestations remains to be proven. A Clinical and Physiological Prospective Observational Study on the Management of Pediatric Shock in the Post-Fluid Expansion as Supportive Therapy Trial Era*
CONCLUSIONS: Maintenance-only fluid therapy normalized clinical and myocardial perturbations in shock without compromising cardiac or hemodynamic function whereas fluid-bolus management of WHO shock resulted in high fatality. Troponin and lactate biomarkers of cardiac dysfunction could be promising outcome predictors in pediatric septic shock in resource-limited settings.

Bivalirudin or Unfractionated Heparin for Anticoagulation in Pediatric Patients on Continuous Flow Ventricular Assist Device Support: Single-Center Retrospective Cohort Study
Conclusions: Use of bivalirudin for anticoagulation in patients on CF-VAD support was associated with lesser odds of hemorrhagic complications compared with use of UFH. Bivalirudin “washout” was successful in medical management of six of eight cases of possible pump thrombosis.

Cardiovascular outcomes in children with Kawasaki disease: a population-based cohort study
CONCLUSION: KD survivors are at increased risk of post-discharge cardiovascular events but have a lower risk of death, which justifies enhanced cardiovascular disease surveillance in these patients.IMPACT: Among 4597 Kawasaki disease (KD) survivors, 79 (1.7%) experienced major adverse cardiac events (MACE) and 632 (13.8%) had composite cardiovascular events during 11-year median follow-up. Left Ventricular Function and Dimensions Are Altered Early in Infants Developing Brain Injury in the Setting of Neonatal Encephalopathy
We evaluated the association between left cardiac three-dimensional echocardiographic parameters and brain injury in a single-center prospective study of neonates with neonatal encephalopathy. On day 2 of life, neonates with brain injury had higher left ventricle end-diastolic and stroke volume, but also higher peak global circumferential strain detected by 3D-echocardiogram.
