Abstract: Conventional stroke risk prediction tools used in atrial fibrillation (AF) incorporate the presence of diabetes mellitus (DM) as a risk factor. Cross-level interaction between individual socioeconomic status and regional deprivation on overall survival after onset of ischemic stroke: National health insurance cohort sample data from 2002 to 2013.
CONCLUSION: Although we need to perform further investigations to determine the exact mechanisms, regional deprivation, as well as medical factors, might be associated with survival after onset of ischemic stroke in low-income patients.

Stroke risk among adult patients with third, fourth or sixth cranial nerve palsy: a Nationwide Cohort Study

CHA2DS2-VASc score for ischaemic stroke risk stratification in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease with and without atrial fibrillation: a nationwide cohort study
ConclusionsOur study is the first to show that the performance of CHA2DS2-VASc score in predicting ischaemic stroke is better for COPD patients without AF than for COPD patients with AF.

Rheumatoid arthritis significantly increased recurrence risk after ischemic stroke/transient ischemic attack
This study provides the first evidence that RA significantly increased recurrence IS/TIA risk. The changes of TG/HDL-C ratio may play some roles in the recurrence IS/TIA risk in RA patients. In addition, our results suggest that smoking increases the risk of recurrent IS/TIA in RA patients and reinforces the need for aggressive smoking cessation efforts in RA patients.

Risk of Coronary Heart Disease and Ischemic Stroke Incidence in Gastric Cancer Survivors: A Nationwide Study in Korea.
CONCLUSIONS: CHD and ischemic stroke risk decreased after gastrectomy. The amount of weight loss and accompanying metabolic changes seemed to mediate the reduction of such risk. Reassessment of cardiovascular risk factors after gastrectomy and consideration of cardiovascular risk in the selection of treatment modality are suggested.

The effect of aircraft, road, and railway traffic noise on stroke - results of a case-control study based on secondary data.
Conclusion: This large case-control study indicates that traffic noise exposure may lead to an increase in stroke risk. It furthermore suggests that maximum aircraft noise levels at night increase the stroke risk even when continuous noise exposure is low, and thus highlights the relevance of maximum noise levels for research and policies on noise protection.
