Antiplatelet and anticoagulant agents for secondary prevention of stroke and other thromboembolic events in people with antiphospholipid syndrome.
CONCLUSIONS: The evidence identified indicates that NOACs compared with standard-dose VKAs may increase the risk of stroke and do not appear to alter the risk of other outcomes (moderate-certainty evidence). Using high-dose VKA versus standard-dose VKA did not alter the risk of any thromboembolic event or major bleeding but may increase the risk of any form of bleeding (low-certainty evidence). Ischemic Stroke in Pregnancy and Postpartum: A Descriptive Case Series (P1.079)
CONCLUSIONS: In our series of 19 pregnancy-associated ischemic strokes, mechanisms appeared unrelated to traditional vascular risk factors, and there was a substantial proportion of poor outcomes. Strokes were commonest in the 12 weeks postpartum, almost one third of which occurred following a miscarriage. Stroke after Pregnancy Disorders
Women with hypertensive pregnancy disorders are at risk of developing stroke, possibly mediated by female-specific risk factors. Pregnancy is considered to be a stress test for cardiovascular health later in life [1]. In the current study we assessed the occurrence of pregnancy disorders, among women with a history of ischemic stroke who participated in the Dutch acute stroke study (DUST) and related these risk factors to age of stroke onset, stroke subtype, radiological characteristics and clinical outcome.

The Possible Effect of Oxytocin in Post-Partum Recovery from a Stroke: A Case Report
Pregnancy is a risk factor for stroke in young women, but the effect of delivery on recovery and rehabilitation after stroke has not been elucidated in pregnant stroke patients. This case report presents a pregnant stroke patient who recovered successfully after cesarean delivery during rehabilitation. The possible effect of oxytocin is discussed as a factor promoting recovery from stroke.

Cardiac papillary fibroelastoma and stroke during pregnancy: Case report.
We report the case of a woman with severe headache associated with visual disturbances, without hypertension or proteinuria at 32 weeks of pregnancy. MRI revealed multiple recent cerebral vascular accidents. An echocardiogram detected a papillary fibroelastoma of 5mm. Maternal fetal experts determined it safe to continue the pregnancy. Childbirth at 39 weeks was normal uneventful for the newborn and mother. Stroke in Pregnancy
Pregnancy confers a substantially increased risk of stroke, especially during the third trimester and until 6  weeks postpartum. Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and gestational hypercoagulability are important contributors to obstetric stroke. Preeclampsia and eclampsia confer risk for future cardiovascular disease. Hemorrhagic stroke is the most common type of obstetric stroke. Ischemic stroke can res ult from cardiomyopathy, paradoxical embolism, posterior reversible encephalopathy, reversible cerebral vasoconstriction syndrome, and dissections. Cerebral venous sinus thrombosis is a frequent complication of pregnancy.
