Foetal radiation exposure caused by mechanical thrombectomy in large-vessel ischaemic stroke in pregnancy
ConclusionThe estimated doses received by the foetus during diagnostic stroke imaging and mechanical thrombectomy are equivalent to, or less than, purely diagnostic imaging in emergency situations.

Stroke recurrence in pregnancy: Experience at a regional referral center
Although stroke is more common with advancing age, especially in the elderly, women of reproductive age may still suffer from stroke, and from its deleterious consequences. Women of reproductive age who suffer a stroke may do so either due to a specific predisposition, or due to pregnancy-related hypertensive emergencies.

E-191 Influence of socioeconomic factors on the development of post-stroke depression in aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage survivors
ConclusionThe overall risk of developing a new depression disorder after aSAH was 16% in this retrospective study. The female sex was close to 4 times and substance use were six and half time more likely to develop new depressive symptoms; therefore, these risk factors should be considered when screening patients for depression after aSAH.Disclosures D. APRIL: A double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized, Phase Ib/IIa clinical study of ApTOLL for the treatment of acute ischemic stroke
In the reperfusion era, a new paradigm of treating patients with endovascular treatment (EVT) and neuroprotective drugs is emerging as a promising therapeutic option for patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS). In this context, ApTOLL, a Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) antagonist with proven neuroprotective effect in preclinical models of stroke and a very good pharmacokinetic and safety profile in healthy volunteers, is a promising first-in-class aptamer with the potential to address this huge unmet need. This protocol establishes the clinical trial procedures to conduct a Phase Ib/IIa clinical study (APRIL) to assess ApTOL...

Stroke-related risk factors during pregnancy in women who had metabolic and bariatric surgery compared to women without metabolic and bariatric surgery.
Stroke during pregnancy is rare, occurring in 30 of 100,000 pregnancies, and accounting for 7% of maternal deaths in the United States from 2016 to 2018. Metabolic and bariatric surgery (MBS) have been shown to reduce symptoms of chronic conditions that are risk factors for stroke, including hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, and diabetes in women. However, little is known about the impact of MBS on stroke risk during pregnancy.

Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and long-term risk of maternal stroke —a systematic review and meta-analysis
Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy are associated with a long-term risk for cardiovascular disease among parous patients later in life. However, relatively little is known about whether hypertensive disorders of pregnancy are associated with an increased risk for ischemic stroke or hemorrhagic stroke in later life. This systematic review aimed to synthesize the available literature on the association between hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and the long-term risk for maternal stroke.

Elabela, a Novel Peptide, Exerts Neuroprotective Effects Against Ischemic Stroke Through the APJ/miR-124-3p/CTDSP1/AKT Pathway
In conclusion, these results indicated that ELA could alleviate neuronal apoptosis and axonal damage by upregulating miR-124-3p and activating the CTDSP1/AKT signaling pathway. This study, for the first time, verified the protective effect of ELA against neuronal injury after ischemia and revealed the underlying mechanisms. We demonstrated the potential for the use of ELA as a therapeutic agent in the treatment of ischemic stroke.PMID:37106272 | DOI:10.1007/s10571-023-01352-6
