Primary astrocytic mitochondrial transplantation ameliorates ischemic stroke
In this study, we observed that treatment with mitochondria isolated from rat primary astrocytes enhanced cell viability and ameliorated hydrogen peroxide-damaged neurons. Interestingly, isolated astrocytic mitochondria increased the number of cells under damaged neuronal conditions, but not under normal conditions, although the mitochondrial transfer efficiency did not differ between the two conditions. This effect was also observed after transplanting astrocytic mitochondria in a rat middle cerebral artery occlusion model. These findings suggest that mitochondria transfer therapy can be used to treat acute ischemic strok...

Pharmacological interventions for preventing atrial fibrillation after lung surgery: systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: Current clinical evidence supports the effectiveness of pharmacological intervention with beta-blockers, amiodarone, magnesium sulfate, or calcium-channel blockers to reduce the incidence of POAF after lung surgery in patients with lung cancer. In the absence of contraindications, prophylaxis with beta-blockers seems to be the most effective of the treatments studied.PMID:36136141 | DOI:10.1007/s00228-022-03383-2

How Menopause Affects Cholesterol —And How to Manage It
Kelly Officer, 49, eats a vegan diet and shuns most processed foods. So, after a recent routine blood test revealed that she had high cholesterol, “I was shocked and upset,” she says, “since it never has been [high] in the past.” Officer is not alone. As women enter menopause, cholestrol levels jump—by an average of 10-15%, or about 10 to 20 milligrams per deciliter. (A healthy adult cholesterol range is 125-200 milligrams per deciliter, according to the National Library of Medicine.) This change often goes unnoticed amidst physical symptoms and the general busyness of those years. But, says D...

Molecular explanation of Wnt/ βcatenin antagonist pyrvinium mediated calcium equilibrium changes in aging cardiovascular disorders
Mol Biol Rep. 2022 Sep 15. doi: 10.1007/s11033-022-07863-7. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe symptoms of ageing are somewhat different and can lead to the altered role of the cardiovascular system at the levels of genetic, biochemical, tissue, organ, and systems. Ageing is an autonomous cardiovascular risk factor. In the ageing rat heart, oxidative and inflammatory stress, immune cell infiltration, increasing myeloperoxidase function, elevated caspase-3 activity, and protein fibronectins were detected and associated with ageing and cardiovascular disease. The intracellular Ca2 + homeostasis disturbed in an older heart dra...
