Atenolol vs Nonatenolol β-Blockers for the Treatment of Hypertension: A Meta-analysis
Conclusions In the young, both atenolol and nonatenolol β-blockers are effective in reducing cardiovascular end points for hypertension without compelling indications. Atenolol is associated with increased stroke in the elderly but whether this extends to nonatenolol β-blockers remains uncertain.

Duration of Preoperative β-Blockade and Outcomes After Major Elective Noncardiac Surgery
Conclusions Initiation of β-blocker therapy 1-7 days before noncardiac surgery is associated with increased 30-day mortality. The findings merit further evaluation by randomized trials.

Conclusions Among community-dwelling patients aged 66 years and older receiving therapy with an ACEi or an ARB, aliskiren use was not associated with hospitalization for hyperkalemia, AKI, or stroke.

Echocardiography Underestimates Stroke Volume and Aortic Valve Area: Implications for Patients With Small-Area Low-Gradient Aortic Stenosis
Conclusions Echocardiography underestimated LVOTarea, stroke volume, and therefore AVA, compared with MRI. The thresholds based on current guidelines were also inconsistent. In combination, these factors explain > 40% of patients with discordant small-area low-gradient AS.
