Association between electronic nicotine delivery systems use and risk of stroke: a meta-analysis of 1,024,401 participants
CONCLUSIONS: The ENDS usage appears to be associated with a higher risk of stroke compared to non-use, whereas there was no association between former ENDS use and the risk of stroke.PMID:37732043 | PMC:PMC10507757 | DOI:10.5114/aoms/171473

Oral Anticoagulation Use and Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion in LAAOS III
CONCLUSIONS: The benefit of LAA occlusion was consistent whether patients were receiving OACs or not. LAA occlusion provides thromboembolism reduction in patients independent of OAC use.PMID:37732457 | DOI:10.1161/CIRCULATIONAHA.122.060315

A comparative study of thoracoscopic left atrial appendage clipping versus stapled resection
CONCLUSIONS: The clipping group demonstrated a higher rate of complete LAA closure compared to the stapled resection group. Close monitoring of patients with residual LAA stumps is essential. Further research with larger cohorts is needed to elucidate impact of residual LAA stump on thromboembolic events.PMID:37734642 | DOI:10.1016/j.athoracsur.2023.09.010

A cardiovascular polypill for secondary stroke prevention in a tertiary centre in Ghana (SMAART): a phase 2 randomised clinical trial
Lancet Glob Health. 2023 Oct;11(10):e1619-e1628. doi: 10.1016/S2214-109X(23)00347-9.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: A cardiovascular polypill containing generic drugs might facilitate sustained implementation of and adherence to evidence-based treatments, especially in resource-limited settings. However, the impact of a cardiovascular polypill in mitigating atherosclerotic risk among stroke survivors has not been assessed. We aimed to compare a polypill regimen with usual care on carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) regression after ischaemic stroke.METHODS: In SMAART, a phase 2 parallel, open-label, assessor-masked, randomised clini...

Serum retinol-binding protein 4 in stroke patients: correlation with T helper 17/regulatory T cell imbalance and 3-year cognitive function decline
ConclusionSerum RBP4 is positively associated with a Th17/Treg cell imbalance and, more importantly, it is indicative of cognitive function decline within 3 years in stroke patients. Thus, early and timely interventions and physical rehabilitation are more necessary in stroke patients with high serum RBP4.

Global trends and hotspots in research on acupuncture for stroke: a bibliometric and visualization analysis
This study aimed to characterize the global publications and analyze the trends of acupuncture for stroke in the past 40  years. We identified 1157 publications from the Web of Science Core Collection. The number of publications grew slowly in the first three decades from 1980 until it started to grow after 2010, with significant growth in 2011–2012 and 2019–2020. China, the USA, and South Korea are the top three countries in this field, and China has formed good internal cooperative relations. Early studies focused on the clinical efficacy of acupuncture for stroke. In the last five years, more emphasis has been plac...
