An evaluation of acute stroke ct protocol requests made in the emergency department
Conclusions Our results suggest a greater need to educate ED physicians in recognising posterior circulation stroke symptoms and stroke mimics as well as thrombolysis guidelines.2,3 This will help avoid unnecessary ordering of CTAs particularly for patients presenting outside the thrombolysis window. This will avoid contrast related complications and also result in significant cost savings.

Detection of Presymptomatically Latent Lesions Developing into Stroke-Like Episodes by Arterial Spin-Labeling Perfusion MRI in MELAS Patients (P03.162)
CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that regional ASL hyperperfusion in the presymptomatic phase precedes the appearance of upcoming stroke-like lesions, and that presymptomatic SEs had already occurred several months before the onset of clinical symptoms. Conclusion: We found a statistically insignificant tendency for the ultrasound-measured length of sICAS<70% to be longer than that of sICAS≥70%. Moreover, the ultrasound-measured length of sICAS<90% was significantly longer than that of sICAS 90%. Among patients with sICAS≥70%, the degree and length of stenosis were inversely correlated. Central Retinal Artery Occlusion: Current Practice, Awareness and Prehospital Delays in Switzerland
ConclusionsCRAO awareness of the general population and physician awareness about the treatment options as well as the non-standardized prehospital organization, seems to be the main reason for the prehospital delays and impedes treating CRAO patients. CONCLUSIONS: Cognitive impairment and increased level of anxiety are frequent in patients with carotid stenosis. The lack of a correlation between cognitive functioning and degree of stenosis or the presence of collaterals, challenges the view that CAS per se leads to cognitive impairment.
