Can This Breakfast Food Reverse Alzheimer ’ s?
I’m sure you’ve noticed how expensive eggs have gotten lately. The price has soared more than any other food in the supermarket…up 60% from one year ago.1 One reason for skyrocketing prices is the ongoing avian flu epidemic. But another reason is that demand for “nature’s perfect food” has increased substantially. And that is good news because eggs are essential for your health – including the fight against Alzheimer’s. And that means they’re worth every penny for the way they protect your brain. Two breakthrough studies back up what I’ve been telling my patients for over three decades… That ...

Triglyceride-glucose index predicts death in patients with stroke younger than 65
ConclusionElevated TGI independently predicts death at 3 months and 12 months in patients under 65 with ischemic stroke. Regulating TGI is expected to be an approach to enhance prognosis in young individuals affected by ischemic stroke.

Glyoxal in hyperglycaemic ischemic stroke – a cohort study
Hyperglycaemia is frequent in acute ischemic stroke and denotes a bad prognosis, even in the absence of pre-existing diabetes. However, in clinical trials treatment of elevated glucose levels with insulin did ...

Overexpressing Glyoxalase 1 Attenuates Acute Hyperglycemia-Exacerbated Neurological Deficits of Ischemic Stroke in Mice
This study investigated the therapeutic effects of the overexpression of glyoxalase 1 (GLO1), a detoxifying enzyme of glycotoxins, on acute hyperglycemia-aggravated ischemic brain injury. In present study, AAV-mediated GLO1 overexpression reduced infarct volume and edema level but did not improve neurofunctional recovery in the mice with MCAO. AAV-GLO1 infection significantly enhanced neurofunctional recovery in the MCAO mice with acute hyperglycemia but not in the mice with normoglycemia. MG-modified proteins expression significantly increased in the ipsilateral cortex of the MCAO mice with acute hyperglycemia. AAV-GLO1 i...

Overexpressing Glyoxalase 1 Attenuates Acute Hyperglycemia –Exacerbated Neurological Deficits of Ischemic Stroke in Mice
This study investigated the therapeutic effects of the overexpression of glyoxalase 1 (GLO1), a detoxifying enzyme of glycot oxins, on acute hyperglycemia–aggravated ischemic brain injury.  In present study, AAV-mediated GLO1 overexpression reduced infarct volume and edema level but did not improve neurofunctional recovery in the mice with MCAO.

Mitochondrial aspartate/glutamate carrier AGC1 regulates cardiac function via Drp1-mediated mitochondrial fission in doxorubicin-induced cardiomyopathy
This study investigated the therapeutic effects of the overexpression of glyoxalase I (GLO1), a detoxifying enzyme of gly cotoxins, on acute hyperglycemia–aggravated ischemic brain injury.  In the present study, adeno-associated viral (AAV)-mediated GLO1 overexpression reduced infarct volume and edema level but did not improve neurofunctional recovery in the mice with middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO).

Association between triglyceride-glucose index and all-cause mortality in critically ill patients with ischemic stroke: analysis of the MIMIC-IV database
The triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index was significantly associated with insulin resistance (IR). Several studies have validated the effect of TyG index on cerebrovascular disease. However, the value of TyG inde...

Association of triglyceride-glucose index with myocardial injury post-stroke in older patients with first-ever ischemic stroke
Myocardial injury post-stroke is a common sequela of acute stroke. Triglyceride-glucose index (TyG index), a valuable surrogate indicator of insulin resistance, has been suggested to be closely related to card...

Association Between Serum Vitamin D Levels and Physical Outcomes of Patients Who Underwent Rehabilitation Following Ischemic Stroke
CONCLUSIONS Lower serum vitamin D levels and more advanced age may be associated with worse functional outcomes in first-ever ischemic stroke patients.PMID:37248685 | DOI:10.12659/MSM.940115

Five-Year Changes in Inflammatory, Metabolic, and Oxidative Biomarkers and 10-Year Cardiovascular Disease Incidence: The REGICOR Cohort Study
Int J Mol Sci. 2023 Apr 27;24(9):7934. doi: 10.3390/ijms24097934.ABSTRACTIschemic cardiovascular diseases (CVD) originate from an imbalance between atherosclerotic plaque formation, instability, and endothelial healing dynamics. Our aim was to examine the relationship between 5-year changes in inflammatory, metabolic, and oxidative biomarkers and 10-year CVD incidence in a population without previous CVD. This was a prospective cohort study of individuals aged 35-74 years (n = 419) randomly selected from 5263 REGICOR participants without CVD recruited in 2005. Biomarkers were measured at baseline and in 2010. Participants ...

Triglyceride-glucose index, symptomatic intracranial artery stenosis and recurrence risk in minor stroke patients with hypertension
CONCLUSION: TyG is a significant risk factor for sICAS in hypertensive patients, and there is a synergistic effect of sICAS and higher TyG on ischemic stroke recurrence.TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER: The study was registered on 16 August 2019 at https://www.chictr.org.cn/showprojen.aspx?proj=41160 (No. ChiCTR1900025214).PMID:37076850 | DOI:10.1186/s12933-023-01823-6

Metformin adherence and the risk of cardiovascular disease: a population-based cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: This study revealed that metformin adherence in patients with T2DM who required a first-line treatment may reduce the risk of subsequent CVD. Despite the availability of numerous novel antiglycemic agents, metformin adherence by patients who require a combination of antiglycemic agents provides an additional benefit of CVD protection.PMID:37051071 | PMC:PMC10084537 | DOI:10.1177/20406223231163115
