The modifying role of major cardiovascular risk factors in the association between retirement and cardiovascular disease: Results from SHARE Portugal
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest that retirement and retirement age may be beneficial or harmful, respectively, in the presence or absence of major risk factors for heart disease and stroke. CONCLUSIONS: The present results corroborate the role of the LH in more local processing and that of the RH in more global aspects of discourse. AbstractIn Portugal, there is no gold standard test to assess acute stroke patients in the hospital context. However, cognitive deficits are common after a stroke episode and are followed by a negative impact on a patient ’s quality of life and rehabilitation. Access to stroke care in Europe: results of a vignette approach
ConclusionsWhile stroke related services are formally covered in almost all countries, considerable access problems exist in several countries. Future cross-country surveys of access to stroke care should collect quantitative data related to proportions of patients receiving particular services as well as qualitative data on access barriers.

Nationwide Access to Endovascular Treatment for Acute Ischemic Stroke in Portugal
CONCLUSION: The overall national rate of EVT in the first two years after the organization of EVT-capable centers is one of the highest among European countries, however, significant regional disparities were documented. Admission and Readmission/Death Patterns in Hospitalized and Non-hospitalized First-Ever-in-a-Lifetime Stroke Patients During the First Year: A Population-Based Incidence Study
Conclusion: About one-third of stroke patients were not hospitalized, and the readmission/death rate was higher in HospS patients. Still, that readmission/death rate difference was likely due to other factors than hospitalization itself. Our research provides novel information that may help implement targeted health-related policies to reduce the burden of stroke and its complications.

The impact of COVID-19 pandemic in stroke code activation and time from symptom onset to hospital arrival in a Portuguese comprehensive stroke centre
CONCLUSION: COVID-19 related factors probably reduced healthcare services utilization, and delayed emergency calls and hospital arrival after stroke onset. These highlight the importance of health education to improve the effectiveness of medical assistance.
