Inverted U-shaped relationship between mean platelet volume/platelet count ratio and post-thrombolytic early neurological deterioration in patients with mild and moderate stroke
CONCLUSION: An inverted U-shaped relationship between MPV/PC ratio on admission and post-thrombolytic END was identified in patients with mild and moderate stroke, with a threshold MPV/PC ratio of 51.0. The MPV/PC ratio closer to the threshold was associated with a higher risk of post-thrombolytic END.PMID:36305144 | DOI:10.2174/1567202620666221027093103

A novel risk score to predict deep vein thrombosis after spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage
ConclusionThe ICH-DVT is a valid grading scale for predicting in-hospital DVT after ICH. Further studies on the effect of the ICH-DVT on clinical outcomes after ICH are warranted.

Clinical Significance of Plasma D-Dimer and Fibrinogen in Outcomes after Stroke: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Conclusion: Fibrinogen and D-dimer may be associated with adverse outcomes in patients with stroke, suggesting that they may serve as possible biomarkers for post-stroke adverse outcomes.Cerebrovasc Dis

Impact of Patency of the Carotid Terminus and Middle Cerebral Artery on Early Clinical Outcomes in Patients with Acute Internal Carotid Artery Occlusion and Mild Symptoms
Conclusion: The overall clinical outcomes of patients with acute ICAO with mild symptoms were not depending on the patency of the ICT and MCA, but initial treatment with IVT alone might risk unfavorable outcomes due to thrombus migration in patients with patent ICT and MCA.Cerebrovasc Dis Extra 2023;13:1 –7

Carotid Health in Patients with Cerebral Venous Thrombosis
Conclusion: This is the first study to our knowledge looking at carotid health in venous strokes. The relative risk for carotid atherosclerosis in CVT patients is higher and requires long-term follow-up for the initiation of preventive measures.

Sixteen-Syndrome in a Young Patient with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
This report describes a case of 16 syndrome in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). A 28 year old woman with underlying lupus was presented with sudden left side body weakness and diplopia. Examination showed features of 16 syndrome with one and a half syndrome, facial diplegia and left hemiparesis. Neuroimaging revealed an acute infarct of bilateral dorsal pons. The patient was placed on antiplatelet therapy. However, she developed left leg deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism after one week. She was then given subcutaneous low molecular weight heparin, followed by warfarin and cycles of cyclophosphamide. Her hemipa...

Is Crash Loading Acceptable in Carotid Artery Stenting?
ConclusionWith the medical regimen used in this study, urgent CAS with CL APT did not produce more ischemic, thrombotic and hemorrhagic complications than longer loading times. However, careful patient selection might be crucial and adequate loading times should remain the standard of care.

Venous stroke –a stroke subtype that should not be ignored
Based on the etiology, stroke can be classified into ischemic or hemorrhagic subtypes, which ranks second among the leading causes of death. Stroke is caused not only by arterial thrombosis but also by cerebral venous thrombosis. Arterial stroke is currently the main subtype of stroke, and research on this type has gradually improved. Venous thrombosis, the particular type, accounts for 0.5–1% of all strokes. Due to the lack of a full understanding of venous thrombosis, as well as its diverse clinical manifestations and neuroimaging features, there are often delays in admission for it, and it is easy to misdiagnose. The ...

The impact of leptomeningeal collaterals in acute ischemic stroke: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionsThe relative risk of favorable clinical outcome is more in patients with good pretreatment CBF. This could be explained due to better chances of recanalization combined with a lesser risk of intracerebral hemorrhage with good CBF status.

Natural history of carotid artery free-floating thrombus —A single center, consecutive cohort analysis
ConclusionThe risk of recurrent ischaemic events in patients with CFFT is high, especially in the first week after diagnosis. Prospective studies are needed to further investigate the optimal management of these patients.

Immediate outcome prognostic value of plasma factors in patients with acute ischemic stroke after intravenous thrombolytic treatment
In the present study, we explored multiple plasma factors to predict the outcomes of patients with AIS after IVT. Fifty AIS patients who received IVT with alteplase were recruited and divided into two groups a...

Successful thrombolytic therapy is associated with increased granulocyte CD15 expression and reduced stroke ‐induced immunosuppression
ConclusionsOur current results indicate that TT may not only acutely reduce the systemic inflammatory response following stroke but may also play a role in reversing SIIS at a later stage following the insult, as reflected by the higher expression of the CD15 marker on granulocytes following successful TT.
