Leukocyte Count and Risks of Stroke and Coronary Heart Disease: The Circulatory Risk in Communities Study (CIRCS)
CONCLUSION: Leukocyte count was positively associated with the risks of ischemic stroke and coronary heart disease among the general Japanese population, especially in current smokers.PMID:33746157 | DOI:10.5551/jat.60889

Basilar artery occlusion presenting as sudden bilateral deafness: a case report
ConclusionsWhen hearing loss is due to vertebrobasilar occlusive disease, the prognosis is very poor. We suggest that vertebrobasilar stroke be suspected in patients with bilateral sensorineural hearing loss who present with risk factors for stroke such as atrial fibrillation and other neurologic signs.

Seaweed Intake and Risk of Cardiovascular Disease: The Circulatory Risk in Communities Study (CIRCS).
CONCLUSIONS: We found an inverse association between seaweed intake and risk of total stroke, especially that from cerebral infarction, among Japanese men. PMID: 33597328 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Direct aspiration thrombectomy experience with the SOFIA 6F catheter in acute ischemic stroke
ConclusionIn the majority of our cases, the SOFIA 6F catheter provided effective and rapid recanalization with aspiration thrombectomy.

Recurrent Cerebral Venous Thrombosis Treated with Direct Oral Anticoagulants in a Japanese Man with Hereditary Protein C Deficiency
We herein report a case involving a 32-year-old Japanese man with recurrent cerebral venous thrombosis due to hereditary protein C deficiency. He was admitted to our hospital with impaired consciousness. Brain magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated high intensities diffusely along the bilateral sulci and magnetic resonance venography revealed left transverse sinus and superior sagittal sinus stenoses. His father had a history of cerebral infarction and venous thrombosis. The protein C activity level examined by chromogenic synthetic substrate assay was markedly reduced.

Estimation of 10-Year Risk of Death from Coronary Heart Disease, Stroke, and Cardiovascular Disease in a Pooled Analysis of Japanese Cohorts: EPOCH-JAPAN.
CONCLUSIONS: Risk equations in the present study can adequately estimate the absolute 10-year risk of death from CHD, stroke, and CVD. Future work will evaluate the system as an education and risk communication tool for primary prevention of CHD and stroke. PMID: 33041313 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

A Multicenter Prospective Observational Cohort Study to Investigate the Effectiveness and Safety of Rivaroxaban in Japanese Venous Thromboembolism Patients (The J'xactly Study).
CONCLUSIONS: In Japanese clinical practice, a single-drug approach with rivaroxaban was demonstrated to be a valuable treatment for a broad range of VTE patients. PMID: 32981924 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Japanese and Non-Japanese Patients with Transient Ischemic Attack or Minor Stroke: A Five-Year Risk Analysis of Stroke and Vascular Events.
CONCLUSIONS: Recurrent stroke and intracranial hemorrhage were determined to be more prevalent at 5 years after TIA or minor stroke in Japanese patients than in non-Japanese patients. Strategies to mitigate the long-term risks of stroke, aside from adherence to current guidelines, should take Japanese-patient-specific residual risks into account. Clinical outcomes of patients treated using very short duration dual antiplatelet therapy after implantation of biodegradable-polymer drug-eluting stents: rationale and design of a prospective multicenter REIWA registry
This study is an observational, prospective, multicenter registry encompassing the entire local medical region of Iwate Prefecture (northern area of mainland Japan). A total of 1200 patients who underwent successful PCI with a novel thin strut BP-DES (Synergy, Ultimaster or Orsiro) and are considered to be appropriate patients for very short DAPT, are registered and subsequently administered 1-month DAPT followed by P2Y12 inhibitor monotherapy (clopidogr el 75 mg/day or prasugrel 3.75 mg/day). The primary endpoint was a composite of cardiovascular and bleeding events, which included cardiovascular death, spontaneous myoc...

Incidence of Cardiovascular Events and Safety Profile of Prasugrel in Korean Patients With Acute Coronary Syndrome.
CONCLUSIONS: The present results are similar to those observed in clinical trials where administration of low-dose aspirin plus prasugrel was associated with a low rate of major bleeding and CV events. PMID: 32713874 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Comparison Between Clopidogrel and Prasugrel Associated With CYP2C19 Genotypes in Patients Receiving Percutaneous Coronary Intervention in a Japanese Population.
CONCLUSIONS: Among patients with theCYP2C19LOF allele, the use of clopidogrel was significantly associated with increased adverse events. Thus, further investigation is needed to establish the practical use ofCYP2C19genotyping. PMID: 32713878 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Clopidogrel Monotherapy vs. Aspirin Monotherapy Following Short-Term Dual Antiplatelet Therapy in Patients Receiving Everolimus-Eluting Coronary Stent Implantation.
CONCLUSIONS: The effect of 1-month DAPT followed by clopidogrel monotherapy on clinical outcomes was similar to that of 3-month DAPT followed by aspirin monotherapy in patients receiving PCI. PMID: 32684537 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Independent Factors for In-Hospital Death Following Drug-Eluting Stent Thrombosis From the Japanese Adverse Event Report System.
CONCLUSIONS: LMT, CHF, hemodialysis, prior stroke, and older age were independently associated with higher risk of in-hospital death following DES-ST. If target patients have these factors, maximum preventive strategies against ST occurrence, including adequate dual-antiplatelet therapy duration and optimal DES deployment procedures, are required.
