Non-High-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol and Risk of Cardiovascular disease: the Japan Epidemiology Collaboration on Occupational Health Study
CONCLUSIONS: High non-HDL-C levels were associated with an increased risk of myocardial infarction. Moreover, high and low non-HDL-C levels were associated with a high risk of stroke and its subtypes among Japanese workers.PMID:34690212 | DOI:10.5551/jat.63118

Interrupted versus uninterrupted anticoagulation therapy for catheter ablation in adults with arrhythmias
CONCLUSIONS: This meta-analysis showed that the evidence is uncertain to inform the decision to either interrupt or continue anticoagulation therapy around CA procedure in adults with arrhythmia on outcomes of thromboembolic events, major and minor bleeding, all-cause mortality, asymptomatic thromboembolic events, and a composite endpoint of thromboembolic events (stroke, systemic embolism, major bleeding, and all-cause mortality). Most studies in the review adopted a minimal interruption strategy which has the advantage of reducing the risk of bleeding while maintaining a lower level of anticoagulation to prevent periproc...

Diabetes Mellitus Modifies the Association of Serum Triglycerides with Ischemic Cardiovascular Disease Mortality: The Ibaraki Prefectural Health Study (IPHS)
CONCLUSION: The impact of high serum triglyceride levels on the risk of ischemic cardiovascular disease mortality was confined to participants with diabetes mellitus.PMID:34565764 | DOI:10.5551/jat.63081

Effectiveness and safety of transcatheter left atrial appendage closure
J Cardiol. 2021 Sep 23:S0914-5087(21)00234-3. doi: 10.1016/j.jjcc.2021.08.031. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAtrial fibrillation (AF) is responsible for cardiogenic stroke. Since left atrial appendage (LAA) is a cause of most of cardiac thrombus, LAA closure is an emerging novel stroke prevention procedure for patients with AF alternative to anticoagulation. WATCHMAN LAA Closure device (Boston Scientific, Marlborough, MA, USA) is the only approved device in the USA and Japan. The device is indicated in high bleeding risk and high stroke risk non-valvular AF patients. Cardiac tamponade, stroke, and device embolization are t...

Development of Biomembrane-mimetic Nanoparticles for the Treatment of Ischemic Stroke
Yakugaku Zasshi. 2021;141(9):1071-1078. doi: 10.1248/yakushi.21-00114.ABSTRACTIncrease in vascular permeability of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) is a distinct pathology following ischemic stroke. In previous studies, we demonstrated that liposomal drug delivery system (DDS)-based delivery of neuroprotectants is useful for treating cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury. Additionally, our previous studies reported that combination therapy with liposomal fasudil plus tissue plasminogen activator (t-PA), a thrombolytic agent, brings about decrease in the risk of t-PA-derived cerebral hemorrhage and prolong the therapeutic time ...
