Po-05-141 association of interatrial block and the development of atrial fibrillation among patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common sustained arrhythmia among those with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), affecting 1 in 5 patients. The combination of HCM and AF is associated with an increased risk of stroke, heart failure, and mortality. Interatrial block (IAB) is a distinct electrocardiographic (ECG) pattern describing conduction delay between the right and left atria through Bachmann ’s bundle. IAB has been identified as a predictor of AF across several disease states including congestive heart failure, valvular disease, and cardiac amyloidosis.

Paroxysmal AV Block
A 69 year old woman with a history of congestive heart failure and stroke presented to the emergency room with sudden onset lightheadedness leading to a fall at the grocery store and sustaining head trauma. On physical examination, she was alert and in mild distress. Her HR was 72 beats per minute and blood pressure was 196/70. A 12 lead electrocardiogram (ECG) showed normal sinus rhythm, first degree atrioventricular (AV) block and right bundle branch block. She was admitted for management of subdural hematoma which was noted on CT scan.

Identification of magnetic resonance imaging features for the prediction of unrecognized atrial fibrillation in acute ischemic stroke
Conclusion Initial MRI at the time of stroke may be useful to predict which patients have cardioembolic stroke caused by unrecognized AF. Further studies are warranted to verify these findings and their application to high-risk patients.

Cardiovascular health of nonagenarians in southern Italy: a cross-sectional, home-based pilot study of longevity
Conclusion Nonagenarians and centenarians in the Cilento region had a healthy metabolic profile and a low prevalence of clinical cardiovascular disease. Even among nonagenarians and centenarians with structural heart abnormalities, report of symptoms is low. Larger studies in the Cilento population may help elucidate the mechanisms underlying cardiovascular health in the oldest old.
