Early predictive blood markers of hemorrhagic stroke - influence of cytoflavin therapy.
This study aimed to determine early changes in the parameters of oxidative stress and routine biochemistry blood tests in patients with HS and to assess their relationship with clinical outcome. The effects of early applied cytoflavin were also investigated. The prospective study included 151 patients with HS. 48% of patients in the standard conservative therapy was added cytoflavin antioxidant energy therapy from the first day of hospitalization. The neurological status, neuroimaging, biochemical blood tests and free radical processes were assessed on days 1, 5, 10, 20 of hospitalization. In patients with HS, an imbalance...

Efficacy and safety of intravenous thrombolysis for acute ischemic stroke in cancer patients: a systemic review and meta-analysis.
Authors: Huang S, Lu X, Tang LV, Hu Y Abstract The efficacy and safety of intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) for acute ischemic stroke (AIS) in cancer patients remained uncertain due to low level evidence in the latest guideline for AIS. The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy and safety of IVT in cancer patients with stronger evidence. We searched Medline, Embase, CENTRAL and ClinicalTrials.gov until April 2020 for studies reporting outcomes of functional independence, hemorrhagic transformation (HT), symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (SICH), major bleeding (MB), in-hospital mortality or 3-month mortality a...

REMOTE Ischemic Perconditioning Among Acute Ischemic Stroke Patients in Catalonia: REMOTE-CAT PROJECT
Discussion: Neuroprotective therapies could not only increase the benefits of available reperfusion therapies among AIS patients but also provide an option for patients who are not candidates for these treatments. REMOTE-CAT will investigate the clinical benefit of RIC as a new neuroprotective strategy in AIS.Clinical Trial Registration:www.ClinicalTrials.gov, identifier: NCT03375762.

Neurogenic fever due to injury of the hypothalamus in a stroke patient: Case report
We report on a stroke patient with neurogenic fever due to injury of hypothalamus, demonstrated by using diffusion tensor imaging (DTI). Patient concerns: A 28-year-old male patient was admitted to the rehabilitation department of university hospital at 30 months after onset. Brain MRI showed leukomalactic lesions in hypothalamus, bilateral medial temporal lobe, and bilateral basal ganglia. He showed intermittent high body temperature (maximum:39.5°C, range:38.5–39.2°C), but did not show any infection signs upon physical examination or after assessing his white blood cell count and inflammatory enzyme levels suc...

ASPECT Score and Its Application to Vasospasm in Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Haemorrhage: a Case –Control Study
AbstractDelayed cerebral ischaemia (DCI) is a significant complication of aneurysmal subarachnoid haemorrhage (aSAH) and is strongly associated with poorer outcome. The Alberta Stroke Program Early Computer Tomography (ASPECT) score is an established scoring tool, used in acute ischaemic stroke, to quantify early ischaemic changes on CT head scans. We aim to identify if ASPECT scoring correlates with functional outcome in DCI following aSAH. Retrospective case –control study. Inclusion criteria: admission to the Department of Neurosurgery at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (a tertiary neurosurgical centre in the Unite...

Prism adaptation combined with eye movement training for unilateral spatial neglect after stroke: Study protocol for a single-blind prospective, randomized controlled trial
This study will explore the effects of 10 sessions of combined interventions (PA & EMT) on USN and functional capacity. This study has the potential to identify a new, evidence-based treatment option and provide new ideas for the treatment of USN.Ethics and disseminationThe study protocol has been approved by the Nanchong Central Hospital. Written informed consent will be obtained from all the participants. The results of this study will be disseminated to the public through scientific conferences and a peer-reviewed journal.Trial registrationChiCTR, ChiCTR2100049482. Technique could identify patients at high risk of stroke or brain hemorrhage
(Nationwide Children's Hospital) Measuring blood flow in the brain may be an easy, noninvasive way to predict stroke or hemorrhage in children receiving cardiac or respiratory support through a machine called ECMO, according to a new study by researchers at Nationwide Children's Hospital. Early detection would allow physicians to alter treatment and take steps to prevent these complications -- the leading cause of death for patients on ECMO.

Study: Racial, ethnic differences in outcomes following stroke known as subarachnoid hemorrhage
(St. Michael's Hospital) Race or ethnicity can be a significant clue in the United States as to who will survive a kind of stroke known as a subarachnoid hemorrhage and who will be discharged to institutional care, a new study has found.

Protocol for seizure prophylaxis following intracerebral hemorrhage study (SPICH): a randomized, double‐blind, placebo‐controlled trial of short‐term sodium valproate prophylaxis in patients with acute spontaneous supratentorial intracerebral hemorrhage
This study aims to determine if short‐duration sodium valproate prevents seizure onset or improves the survival and neurological outcome in adults after acute spontaneous supratentorial intracerebral hemorrhage. DesignIn this randomized, double blinded, placebo‐controlled trial, 258 patients meeting the inclusion criteria will be enrolled in the Department of Neurosurgery, West China Hospital. In addition to standard care, patients will be randomly assigned to receive seven‐day prophylaxis of sodium valproate 500 mg daily (alternatively 400 mg daily by intravenous infusion in 250 ml 0·9% normal saline) or matc...

Ssocio-economic status impacts mortality rates for subarachnoid hemorrhage in US
Americans in the highest socio-economic groups have a 13 per cent greater chance of surviving a kind of stroke known as a subarachnoid hemorrhage than those in the lowest socio-economic groups, a new study has found. However, social and economic status have no bearing on mortality rates for subarachnoid hemorrhages, or SAH, in Canada, according to the study led by Dr. Loch Macdonald, a neurosurgeon at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto...

Is Achondroplasia Linked to Stroke? (P6.265)
CONCLUSIONS:This case shows an interesting correlation between achondroplasia and carney complex related myxomas that has not been described in literature before. Achondroplasia is an autosomal dominant mutation in FGFR3 gene on chromosome 4P. Mutaions in carney complex are also described to be autosomal dominant mostly involving chromosome 17q23-q24 . There has been no clear pathogenesis described pertaining this correlation yet but more genetics have to be explored.Study Supported by:Disclosure: Dr. Kaur has nothing to disclose. Outcomes of Patients Requiring Blood Pressure Control Before Thrombolysis with tPA for Acute Ischemic Stroke. Darger, Bryan; Gonzales, Nicole R.; Banuelos, Rosa C.; Radecki, Ryan P.; Peng, Hui; Doshi, Pratik B.
Introduction: The purpose of this study was to assess safety and efficacy of thrombolysis in the setting of aggressive blood pressure (BP) control as it compares to standard BP control or no BP control prior to thrombolysis. Methods: We performed a retrospective review of patients treated with tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) for acute ischemic stroke (AIS) between 2004-2011. We compared the outcomes of patients treated with tPA for AIS who required aggressive BP control prior to thrombolysis to those requiring standard or no BP control prior to thrombolysis. The primary outcome of interest was safety, defined b...
