Influence of chronic diseases on the occurrence of depression: A 13-year follow-up study from the Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe
This study aimed to explore the effects of types and number of chronic diseases on the risk of depression using data from the Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE). A self-admitted questionnaire was used to obtain data on 14 predefined chronic diseases and the European-Depression Scale (EURO-D) was used to assess depression. Among the 16,080 baseline depression-free participants aged 50+, 31.29% (5032) developed depression over 13 years. A Rare Cause of Life-Threatening Upper Gastrointestinal Bleeding
Question: A 66-year-old woman presented to the hospital with large-volume hematemesis and melena. Her past medical history was significant for an episode of native valve infective endocarditis secondary to a skin infection 4 years earlier, with an associated embolic stroke of the left middle cerebral artery. Her daily medications included aspirin and atorvastatin. She denied any intake of other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. She had no history of peptic ulcer disease or liver disease. On arrival to the hospital, the patient ’s blood pressure was 90/60 mm Hg, with a heart rate of 140 beats/min.

Causal associations of circulating Helicobacter pylori antibodies with stroke and the mediating role of inflammation
ConclusionsOur results demonstrate thatH. pylori VacA antibody is the only causal determinant associated with the risk of stroke in the spectrum ofH. pylori-related antibodies, in which CRP may mediate the association. This study suggests that inhibition of the CRP signaling pathway may reduce the risk of stroke in patients with VacA-positiveH. pylori infection.

Fatal adverse events of rivaroxaban combined with aspirin: an analysis using data from VigiBase
ConclusionsFatal AEs related to rivaroxaban combined with aspirin, including bleeding and ischemic events, have been reported mostly in the elderly, and sometimes involved medication errors. The fatal AEs mainly manifested as serious bleeding, and most of them occurred in patients with concurrent multiple risk factors. Monitoring coagulation during rivaroxaban treatment is recommended in very high-risk ASCVD populations, and attention should be paid to prevention of medication errors.
