Cancers, Vol. 14, Pages 2977: Association between Breast Cancer and Second Primary Lung Cancer among the Female Population in Taiwan: A Nationwide Population-Based Cohort Study
Conclusion: Patients with breast cancer had a significantly higher risk of developing second primary lung cancer compared with patients without breast cancer, particularly in younger groups and in those without any comorbidities. The special association may be attributed to some potential risk factors such as genetic susceptibility and long-term exposure to PM2.5, and is supposed to increase public awareness. Further studies are necessary given the fact that inherited genotypes, different subtypes of breast cancer and lung cancer, and other unrecognized etiologies may play vital roles in both cancers’ development.

Blunted cardiovascular effects of beta-blockers in patients with cirrhosis: Relation to severity?
ConclusionWe found the effect of beta-blockade on cardiac index in patients with advanced cirrhosis to be less potent than in patients with early cirrhosis, indicating that underlying cirrhotic cardiomyopathy increases, and the cardiac compensatory reserve becomes more compromised, with disease progression. The differential effects of beta-blockade in the left atrium may be used to predict the effect of beta-blockers on portal pressure, but further studies are needed to investigate this possibility.

The Footprint of Kynurenine Pathway in Cardiovascular Diseases
Int J Tryptophan Res. 2022 Jun 28;15:11786469221096643. doi: 10.1177/11786469221096643. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTKynurenine pathway is the main route of tryptophan metabolism and produces several metabolites with various biologic properties. It has been uncovered that several cardiovascular diseases are associated with the overactivation of kynurenine pathway and kynurenine and its metabolites have diagnostic and prognostic value in cardiovascular diseases. Furthermore, it was found that several kynurenine metabolites can differently affect cardiovascular health. For instance, preclinical studies have shown that kynurenine...

Effect of norepinephrine on blood volume, cardiac output, and systemic filling pressure in patients undergoing liver transplantation
CONCLUSIONS: The norepinephrine infusion at 0.1 μg-1 kg-1 min-1 is associated with an increase in CO in patients with liver cirrhosis undergoing liver transplantation. Norepinephrine's effect on CO was primarily attributable to an increase in venous return due to an increase in mean systemic filling pressure.PMID:35833856 | DOI:10.23736/S0375-9393.22.16526-0

Complete alcohol abstinence increases the risk of NAFLD but not severity. A population analysis with transient elastography
CONCLUSION: Interestingly, modest alcohol consumption is associated with decreased odds of NAFLD. Further investigations are required to examine the relationship between alcohol consumption and NAFLD and subsequently the potential impact on NAFLD management.PMID:35944527 | DOI:10.1080/00365521.2022.2105168
