Proteomics analyses of acute kidney injury biomarkers in a rat exertional heat stroke model
In this study, a rat model of AKI caused by EHS was established, and the reliability of the model was evaluated by HE staining and biochemical assays. The expression of kidney tissue proteins in the EHS rats was analyzed using label-free liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry. A total of 3,129 differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) were obtained, and 10 key proteins were finally identified, which included three upregulated proteins (Ahsg, Bpgm, and Litaf) and seven downregulated proteins (medium-chain acyl-CoA synthetase 2 (Acsm2), Hadha, Keg1, Sh3glb1, Eif3d, Ambp, and Ddah2). The qPCR technique was used to va...

Management of a Special Warfare Trainee With Repeat Exertional Heat Stroke: A Case Study
CONCLUSIONS: In individuals with repeat EHS, a prolonged recovery period followed by heat tolerance testing can be used to demonstrate appropriate thermotolerance and safely clear an individual to begin stepwise reacclimatization. Overall, patient care and military readiness may be improved by unified Department of Defense guidelines for return to duty after EHS.PMID:37290772 | DOI:10.1123/jsr.2022-0324

Effects of Cooling Interventions with Different Target Temperatures on Heat Stroke Rats
CONCLUSION: The mechanisms of cooling intervention in alleviating heat stroke-induced damage were associated with the expression changes of p-Akt, Caspase-3, Bax and Bcl-2. The better effect of Tc+1°C might be associated with low expression of Bax.PMID:37284704 | PMC:PMC10239648 | DOI:10.2147/JIR.S408316

Endothelial glycocalyx injury is involved in heatstroke-associated coagulopathy and protected by N-acetylcysteine
DiscussionOur results indicate that the poor prognosis of HS patients correlates with severe coagulation disorders, coagulation abnormalities in HS rats are associated with the damage of EGCX, and NAC improves HS-induced coagulopathy, probably through its protection against EGCX injury by preventing ROS generation.

Amino acid solution mitigates hypothermia response and intestinal damage following exertional heat stroke in male mice
Exertional heat stroke (EHS) is a debilitating and potentially fatal condition for which few prevention strategies exist. These results suggest that a 5AAS improves Tc regulation during EHS recovery through maintaining mucosal function and integrity and that protecting the GI tract during EHS may be beneficial in some of the health consequences of EHS exposure. AbstractIncreased gut permeability is implicated in the initiation and extent of the cytokine inflammatory response associated with exertional heat stroke (EHS). The primary objective of this study was to determine if a five amino acid oral rehydration solution (5AA...

Acquired heat acclimation in rats subjected to physical exercise under environmental heat stress alleviates brain injury caused by exertional heat stroke
Conclusions: This HA model can ameliorate brain injury of EHS by reducing cerebral edema and cell apoptosis, offering experimental evidence for EHS prophylaxis.PMID:37150340 | DOI:10.1016/j.brainres.2023.148393
