Analysis of Clinical Symptoms of Guillain –Barré Syndrome Induced by Heat Stroke: Three Case Reports and Literature Review
ConclusionsThe number of the cases of GBS induced by HS reported in this study has been the most in the recent 5 years. Clinicians should pay attention to patients with heat stroke with sustained coma and the sudden quadriplegia. Early, exact and timely diagnosis and treatment of GBS need to be performed, to accelerate recovery and improve prognosis.

What Extreme Heat Does to the Human Body
For the third weekend in a row, large swaths of the United States have wilted under early-season heatwaves that have set high temperature records from California to Texas. Nearly 100 million Americans are facing heat warnings and advisories from the southwest to the Mississippi River, with temperatures spiking well into the triple digits in California, Texas, Arizona, and Colorado. As much of the northern hemisphere heads into what is projected to be a hotter-than-usual summer, more people will be exposed to dangerous levels of high heat and humidity. Heatwaves kill more people annually in the U.S. than hurricanes, lightni...

Human temperature regulation under heat stress in health, disease, and injury
Physiol Rev. 2022 Jun 9. doi: 10.1152/physrev.00047.2021. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe human body constantly exchanges heat with the environment. Temperature regulation is a homeostatic feedback control system that ensures deep body temperature is maintained within narrow limits despite wide variations in environmental conditions and activity-related elevations in metabolic heat production. Extensive research has been performed to study the physiological regulation of deep body temperature. This review focuses on healthy and disordered human temperature regulation during heat stress. Central to this discussion is the ...

Return to Competition Progression after Exertional Heat Stroke in an Adolescent Runner: A Case Report
J Athl Train. 2022 May 27. doi: 10.4085/1062-6050-0583.21. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA 14-year-old runner indigenous to the tropics, collapsed during his first 10 km race in a hot/humid climate. Dizziness, stumbling, and loss of consciousness were symptoms of exertional heat stroke (EHS). Two days post-collapse blood tests revealed elevated hepatic transaminases consistent with hepatic injury. We discuss the return to competition progression which included a gradual increase in exercise duration, initially in cool and then in a tropical climate, and two field-based (WBGT> 29.0°C) running evaluations that simulated ...

A Review of Construction Workforce Health Challenges and Strategies in Extreme Weather Conditions
Int J Occup Saf Ergon. 2022 May 27:1-35. doi: 10.1080/10803548.2022.2082138. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAbstractConstruction sites continue to operate despite inclement weather, exposing workers to unpleasant working circumstances that can lead to various physical and mental health challenges. A thorough literature review yielded 21 challenges for hot weather conditions such as heat stroke, kidney disease, heat cramps, anxiety, depression and 20 challenges for cold weather conditions like asthma, frostbite, Musculo-Skeletal disorders, hallucination. Workers vulnerable to hot and cold weather based on demographic charact...
