GDF ‐15 at admission predicts cardiovascular death, heart failure, and bleeding outcomes in patients with CAD
ConclusionsIn patients with CAD, admission levels of GDF-15 were associated with an increased 1  year risk of CV death, HF, and bleeding outcomes, but not with thrombotic events. GDF-15 may be a prognostic biomarker for CV death, HF, and bleeding outcomes and could be used to refine the risk assessment of these specific clinical outcomes.Trial Registration:ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT04044066

Simultaneous cardiocerebral infarction associated with postcoital activity
Cardiocerebral infarction (CCI) is a rare and life-threatening presentation of simultaneous acute myocardial infarction and acute ischemic stroke that requires prompt recognition and proper treatment. CCI is time sensitive and carries a high mortality rate. There is no standardized treatment algorithm that addresses both conditions simultaneously.

Cardiovascular Complications in Pregnancy
AbstractPurpose of reviewWe review the epidemiology, risk factors, presentation, pathophysiology, diagnosis, peripartum management, and postpartum follow-up of chronic hypertension, hyperlipidemia, acute myocardial infarction, stroke, heart failure, pulmonary embolism, and atrial fibrillation.Recent findingsWe discuss pathophysiology and evidence-based management for chronic hypertension, hyperlipidemia, acute myocardial infarction, stroke, heart failure, pulmonary embolism, and atrial fibrillation.SummaryIt is essential for providers and patients to understand how cardiovascular diseases cause complications in pregnancy a...

Simultaneous cardiocerebral infarction associated with post-coital activity
Cardiocerebral infarction (CCI) is a rare and life-threatening presentation of simultaneous acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and acute ischemic stroke (AIS) that requires prompt recognition and proper treatment. CCI is time sensitive and carries a high mortality rate. There is no standardized treatment algorithm that addresses both conditions simultaneously.

Glycated hemoglobin variability and the risk of cardiovascular events in patients with prediabetes and type  2 diabetes mellitus: A post‐hoc analysis of a prospective and multicenter study
ConclusionHigh HbA1c variability in the highest quartile showed a statistically significant association with multiple adverse cardiovascular events in an Asian population. Minimizing HbA1c fluctuation during long-term follow up should be another important objective for type  2 diabetes patients.

Identifying coronary artery bypass grafting patients at high risk for adverse long-term prognosis using serial health-related quality of life assessments
CONCLUSIONS: Baseline MCS and changes in MCS were independent predictors for long-term mortality of CABG. Better mental health status and recovery indicated better prognosis.PMID:37620281 | DOI:10.1097/CM9.0000000000002806

Angiotensin Receptor-Neprilysin Inhibitor Effects on Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease Events: A Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials
In conclusion, this meta-analysis found no association between ARNI therapy and improved ASCVD events in patients with HF.PMID:37619492 | DOI:10.1016/j.amjcard.2023.07.154

Patient Cognitive Status and Physician Recommendations for Cardiovascular Disease Treatment: Results of Two Nationwide, Randomized Survey Studies
ConclusionIn these randomized survey studies, physicians recommended fewer guideline-concordant AMI and stroke treatments to hypothetical patients with early-stage dementia than those with NC. We did not find evidence that physicians recommend fewer treatments to hypothetical patients with MCI than those with NC.

Fixed dose combination therapies in primary cardiovascular disease prevention in different groups: an individual participant meta-analysis
Conclusions In participants with intermediate cardiovascular risk, FDCs produce larger cardiovascular benefits in older individuals, which appear greater with aspirin. Trial registration number HOPE-3, NCT00468923; TIPS-3, NCT016464137; PolyIran, NCT01271985.

Subannular repair in secondary mitral regurgitation with restricted leaflet motion during systole
Conclusions Our study demonstrates the safety and feasibility of standardised subannular repair to treat ventricular SMR (Carpentier type IIIb) in a multicentre setting. By addressing mitral leaflet tethering, papillary muscle relocation results in very satisfactory 1-year outcomes and has the potential to durably restore MV geometry; nevertheless, long-term FU is mandatory. Trial registration number NCT03470155.

Association Between Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Cardiovascular Events in Acute Coronary Syndrome Patients With or Without Revascularization - A Prospective Cohort Study
CONCLUSIONS: For patients with ACS, OSA was independently associated with higher risk of recurrent cardiovascular events among patients without revascularization but not among patients undergoing revascularization. The benefits of suitable OSA treatment for patients without revascularization need further investigation.PMID:37612051 | DOI:10.1253/circj.CJ-23-0164

Carotid Plaque Score for Stroke and Cardiovascular Risk Prediction in a Middle-Aged Cohort From the General Population
Conclusions The carotid plaque score is a strong predictor of ischemic stroke and major adverse cardiovascular events, and it provides incremental prognostic information to SCORE2 for risk prediction. A cutoff score of >3 seems to be suitable to discriminate high-risk subjects. Registration Information clinicaltrials.gov. Identifier: NCT01555411.PMID:37609981 | DOI:10.1161/JAHA.123.030739
