Internal carotid artery dissection in a patient with hemophilia A: a case report and literature review
We report the case of a man with hemophilia A who developed sCeAD and transient oculo-pyramidal syndrome and was treated with acetylsalicylic acid. We also review previous published cases of arterial dissection in patients with hemophilia, discussing the potential pathogenetic mechanism underlying this rare association and potential antithrombotic therapeutic options.

Prevalence of selected bleeding and thrombotic events in  persons with hemophilia versus the general population: A scoping review
Res Pract Thromb Haemost. 2022 Dec 9;7(1):100007. doi: 10.1016/j.rpth.2022.100007. eCollection 2023 Jan.ABSTRACTLife expectancy for persons with hemophilia has increased over recent decades due to advances in treatment practice and patient care. Those with hemophilia are now more likely to be affected by conditions associated with aging, such as myocardial infarction, hemorrhagic/ischemic stroke, deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, and intracranial hemorrhage. Here, we describe the results of a literature search designed to summarize current data on the prevalence of the above selected bleeding and thrombotic events ...

Above the threshold time of coagulation: delayed diagnosis of acquired hemophilia A
A man in his 80 ’s presented to our hospital's emergency department with left hip pain after falling while transferring from a wheelchair on a visit day. He had been taking clopidogrel for> 10 years after atherothrombotic stroke and apixaban 2.5 mg b.i.d. for 2 years since he was diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis. The patient had no coagulation abnormalities when he started apixaban therapy and had never experienced bleeding events. His medical history included cervical spondylosis surgery, right femoral neck fracture, hypertension, and benign prostatic hypertrophy.

Severe Hemophilia A and Moyamoya Syndrome in a 19-Year-Old Boy Caused by Xq28 Microdeletion
In conclusion, diagnosis of MMD should be considered in any male, young patient with symptoms of ischemic stroke with no obvious explanation, and especially in patients with known hemophilia, since a relationship between the two conditions has been documented.Case Rep Neurol 2022;14:261 –267

Cardiovascular disease in hereditary haemophilia: The challenges of longevity
Br J Haematol. 2022 Feb 21. doi: 10.1111/bjh.18085. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe development of effective and safe treatments has significantly increased the life expectancy of persons with haemophilia (PWH). This has been accompanied by an increase in the comorbidities of ageing including cardiovascular disease, which poses particular challenges due to the opposing risks of bleeding from haemophilia and antithrombotic treatments versus thrombosis. Although mortality secondary to coronary artery disease in PWH is less than in the general population, the rate of atherosclerosis appears similar. The prevalence of atrial...

Left atrial appendage occlusion in haemophilia patients with atrial fibrillation
ConclusionsLAAO is feasible in haemophilia patients with concurrent atrial fibrillation. However, special care including intravenous substitution with coagulation factors must be given in the periprocedural management.

Percutaneous left atrial appendage closure in patients with primary hemostasis disorders and atrial fibrillation
ConclusionsPercutaneous LAAC in primary HD carriers appeared as safe and as effective as in overall LAAC population for stroke and bleeding prevention at midterm follow-up.Graphical abstractPercutaneous left atrial appendage closure in patients with atrial fibrillation and primary hemostasis disorders. The percutaneous LAAC in primary hemostasis disorders and AF carriers requires a multidisciplinary approach. Cardiologist, anesthesiologist, and hematologist discussion is a cornerstone to assess anticoagulant contraindication, LAAC feasibility, periprocedural management, and follow-up(high). This multidisciplinary care is i...

Estimating the risk of thrombotic events in people with congenital hemophilia A using US claims data
Conclusion: This analysis suggests that PwcHA are not protected against thrombosis, and provides context to evaluate thrombotic risk of HA treatments.PMID:34676773 | DOI:10.2217/cer-2021-0120

Left atrial appendage occlusion for management of atrial fibrillation in persons with hemophilia
Due to advancements in hemophilia care, the overall life expectancy of persons with hemophilia is almost approaching that of the general population [1]. As a result, a growing population of elderly hemophilia patients is now prone to the same age-related cardiovascular comorbidities, such as coronary artery disease (CAD) and atrial fibrillation (AF) [2,3]. The management of AF is a challenge as antithrombotic therapy, the standard of care, is usually contraindicated in persons with hemophilia. Left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO) is an alternative option for stroke prevention in patients with AF with a contraindication t...

A case report and experience of endovascular treatment for a patient with hemophilia who had a hyperacute ischemic stroke
No previous study has reported endovascular treatment (EVT) in a patient with hemophilia who had an acute ischemic stroke (AIS). Herein, we report the case of a patient with hemophilia A who presented with hyperacute stroke due to a near occlusion of the proximal internal carotid artery (ICA).A 54-year-old man was admitted to our emergency department with a sudden onset of left-sided weakness that occurred 4 hours prior to admission. He had been diagnosed with congenital hemophilia A during his childhood.

Left atrial appendage closure: a balanced management of the thromboembolic risk in patients with hemophilia and atrial fibrillation
AbstractAtrial fibrillation is the most common cardiac arrhythmia and is a major cause of embolic stroke. In patients at high bleeding risk such as those with hemophilia, the thromboembolic prevention is challenging. We herein present three patients affected by moderate to severe hemophilia and atrial fibrillation that were treated in our Institution between March 2018 and September 2019, with percutaneous left atrial appendage closure. In patients with relative or absolute contraindications to long-term anticoagulant therapy, the left atrial appendage closure could represent a reasonable strategy.
