Depression, stroke, and dementia in patients with myocardial infarction.
In conclusion, we found that preceding depression was associated with moderately increased mortality after MI, and that
was associated with an increased risk of stroke and vascular dementia, but not dementia from other causes. PMID: 29619929 [PubMed - in process]

Neurological and psychiatric comorbidity in patients with heart failure: risk and prognosis.
In conclusion, the DNPR contains data on several cardiovascular diagnoses and cardiac interventions recorded with high PPVs. Our data also suggest that a history of depression is an adverse prognostic factor for death in patients with heart failure and low LVEF. Finally, heart failure emerged as a risk factor for all-cause dementia as well as for both ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke. PMID: 29619930 [PubMed - in process]

Higher Risk of Vascular Dementia in Myocardial Infarction Survivors.
Conclusions -MI was associated with higher risk of vascular dementia throughout follow-up and this asssociation was stronger in patients suffering stroke. The risk of Alzheimer's disease and other dementias was not higher in MI patients. PMID: 29025764 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

CNS Summit 2017 Abstracts of Poster Presentations
Conclusion: This novel technology discriminates and quantifies subtle differences in behavior and neurological impairments in subjects afflicted with neurological injury/disease. KINARM assessments can be incorporated into multi-center trials (e.g., monitoring stroke motor recovery: NCT02928393). Further studies will determine if KINARM Labs can demonstrate a clinical effect with fewer subjects over a shorter trial period. Disclosures/funding: Dr. Stephen Scott is the inventor of KINARM and CSO of BKIN Technologies.   Multiplexed mass spectrometry assay identifies neurodegeneration biomarkers in CSF Presenter: Chelsky...

Vascular Pathology and Trajectories of Late-Life Major Depressive Disorder in Secondary Psychiatric Care.
CONCLUSIONS: A notable proportion (34%) of individuals diagnosed with MDD in late-life require secondary psychiatric treatment for extended time periods. We did not find evidence that vascular pathology predicts hospital contact trajectories in secondary-treated late-life MDD. PMID: 28807498 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Increased risk of vascular dementia in heart attack survivors
(Aarhus University) It is well known that vascular dementia is triggered by factors such as stroke, but an extensive study from Aarhus University, Denmark, now shows that heart attack also is associated with increased risk -- by 35 per cent, in fact.According to Jens Sundb ø ll, who is behind the study, this can be an argument for more intensive preventive efforts.

Fast Intracortical Sensory-Motor Integration: A Window Into the Pathophysiology of Parkinson ’s Disease
Conclusion and Outlook In this review, we have discussed the possible contributions of the fast-afferent somatosensory pathway, the intracortical integrative component and the fast-efferent corticomotor pathway to alterations of SAI in PD. We concluded that PD-related changes in SAI are most likely caused at the cortical level, where sensory input is rapidly integrated into a motor output. This makes SAI a useful tool to probe how PD impacts on the sensorimotor integration processing at the cortical level. Studies performed on PD patients have shown variable results, ranging from reduced to normal or even enhanced SAI fi...

Collectivism Is Associated With Greater Neurocognitive Fluency in Older Adults
This study aimed to evaluate the impact of self-construal on neurocognitive functions in older adults. A total of 86 community-dwelling older adults 60 years and older were assessed with three common self-report measures of self-construal along individualism and collectivism (IC). A cognitive battery was administered to assess verbal and non-verbal fluency abilities. Latent profile analysis (LPA) was used to categorize individuals according to IC, and one-way analyses of covariance (ANCOVA), including relevant covariates (e.g., ethnicity, gender, linguistic abilities), were used to compare neurocognitive functions between ...

The plasticity of late-onset dementia: A nationwide cohort study in Denmark
DISCUSSION: Most of the observed plasticity in late-onset dementia is associated with a risk decline across successive birth cohorts that is independent of improvements in traditional risk factors.PMID:34569688 | DOI:10.1002/alz.12469

Work stress and loss of years lived without chronic disease: an 18-year follow-up of 1.5 million employees in Denmark
AbstractWe aimed to examine the association between exposure to work stress and chronic disease incidence and loss of chronic disease-free life years in the Danish workforce. The study population included 1,592,491 employees, aged 30 –59 in 2000 and without prevalent chronic diseases. We assessed work stress as the combination of job strain and effort-reward imbalance using job exposure matrices. We used Cox regressions to estimate risk of incident hospital-diagnoses or death of chronic diseases (i.e., type 2 diabetes, coronar y heart disease, stroke, cancer, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, heart failure, ...

Incretin-based therapy of metabolic disease
Dan Med J. 2022 Dec 21;70(1):A10220597.ABSTRACTRecent studies show that incretin hormone analogues effectively control blood glucose while producing major weight losses and reducing the risk of all-cause mortality, myocardial infarction, stroke and kidney function impairment. Furthermore, the risk of dementia and cognitive impairment is reduced. A monomolecular coagonist (tirzepatide) of receptors for both incretin hormones (glucagon-like peptide-1 and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) produced HbA1c values below 5.7% in 50% of the treated patients and weight losses exceeding 20% in obese individuals. These new...
