Community Stroke Rehabilitation Teams: Providing Home-Based Stroke Rehabilitation in Ontario, Canada.
Conclusions: Results indicate that the community stroke rehabilitation teams were effective at improving the functional and psychosocial recovery of patients after stroke. Importantly, these gains were maintained at 6 months postdischarge from the program. A home-based, stroke-specific multidisciplinary rehabilitation program should be considered when accessibility to outpatient services is limited. PMID: 25377355 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Stroke Impact Scale Version 2: Validation of the French Version.
CONCLUSIONS: The French SIS version presents good psychometric properties, except for ceiling effect. This is the first stroke-specific questionnaire evaluating perceived health after stroke to be validated in France, and could be useful for further investigations of HRQoL after stroke. Variations in Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) and survival 1 year after stroke: five European population-based registers
Conclusions The study demonstrated significant variations in survival, HRQoL and utilities across populations that could not be explained by stroke severity and sociodemographic factors. Strong associations between HRQoL at 3 months and survival to 1 year after stroke were identified.

Quality of Life during the First Two Years Post Stroke: The Restore4Stroke Cohort Study
Background: Little information is available about the course of quality of life (QoL) post stroke and how dependency on activities of daily living (ADL) influences this course. The aim of this study was therefore to describe the course of QoL from 2 months up to 2 years post stroke and to study the influence of ADL dependency in the first week post stroke. Methods: This is a multicenter prospective longitudinal cohort study in which 368 stroke patients were included and data were collected at 1 week, 2 months, 6 months, 12 months and 24 months post stroke. QoL assessment included measures of health-related quality of life ...

The High Prevalence of Anxiety Disorders After Stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: Point prevalence of anxiety disorders is markedly higher after stroke than in the general population, and this cannot be attributed to higher rates of comorbid depression. PMID: 26601725 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Community Stroke Rehabilitation: How Do Rural Residents Fare Compared With Their Urban Counterparts?
CONCLUSIONS: When provided with access to a home-based, specialized stroke rehabilitation program, rural dwelling stroke survivors make and maintain functional gains comparable to their urban-living counterparts. PMID: 26635135 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Outcomes of Short-Course Inpatient Stroke Rehabilitation Program in Tertiary Hospital: A Pilot Study.
CONCLUSION: The short-course inpatient rehabilitation program could improve functional ability in stroke patients with low cost but high efficiency. This program is suitable for subacute stroke patients in hospitals with limited resources and budget. PMID: 26817186 [PubMed - in process]

Self-Reported Fatigue and Associated Factors Six Years after Stroke
by Marie Elf, Gunilla Eriksson, Sverker Johansson, Lena von Koch, Charlotte Ytterberg Several studies have found that fatigue is one of the most commonly reported symptoms after stroke and the most difficult to cope with. The present study aimed to investigate the presence and severity of self-reported fatigue six years after stroke onset and associated factors. The cohort “Life After Stroke Phase I” (n = 349 persons) was invited at six years to report fatigue (Fatigue Severity Scale 7-item version), perceived impact of stroke and global recovery after stroke (Stroke Impact Scale), anxiety and depression (Hospital Anx...

Anxiety disorders and risk of stroke: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusions Anxiety disorders are a very prevalent modifiable condition associated with risk of stroke increased by 24%. This evidence could inform the development of interventions for the management of anxiety and the prevention of stroke. Further studies on the risk of stroke in patients with anxiety, and the explanatory factors for this association, are required.

The factors related to early ‐onset depression after first stroke
ConclusionOur findings suggest that early‐onset PSD is likely to be correlated with the severity of stroke and functional disability.

Factors associated with multidimensional aspect of post-stroke fatigue in acute stroke period.
CONCLUSIONS: PSF was highly prevalent in the acute phase, and specific factors including lesion location (right side lesion, thalamic and brainstem lesion), anxiety, and depression were independently associated with multidimensional aspects of PSF. Further study is needed to elucidate how specific structural lesions and anxiety symptoms relate to the development of early fatigue following stroke. PMID: 28483068 [PubMed - in process]

Interventions for treating anxiety after stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: Evidence is insufficient to guide the treatment of anxiety after stroke. Further well-conducted randomised controlled trials (using placebo or attention controls) are required to assess pharmacological agents and psychological therapies. Personality as significant predictor of post-stroke anxiety.
CONCLUSION: Anxiety in stroke patients is predicted mostly by the personality traits and young age of patients. Knowing these predictors can result in early detection and management of emotional consequences of disease, and thus influence the whole recovery process. HSPA12B promotes functional recovery after ischaemic stroke through an eNOS ‐dependent mechanism
Abstract Stroke is the leading cause of disability worldwide. HSPA12B, a heat‐shock protein recently identified expression specifically in endothelial cells, is able to promote angiogenesis. Here, we have investigated its effects on functional recovery at chronic phase of ischaemic stroke. Ischaemic stroke was induced by 60 min. of middle cerebral artery occlusion in transgenic mice with overexpression of HSPA12B (HSPA12B Tg) and wild‐type littermates (WT). HSPA12B Tg mice demonstrated a significant higher survival rate than WT mice within 28 days post‐stroke. Significant improved neurological functions, increased sp...
