Determinants of self-rated health among elderly patients with hypertension: a cross-sectional analysis based on the Chinese longitudinal healthy longevity survey
CONCLUSION: The findings of this study provide evidence for the need to develop effective health promotion programs for the well-being of hypertensive patients.PMID:37337961 | DOI:10.1080/10641963.2023.2224942

Agitation and somnolence by bilateral paramedian thalamic infarct
Key Clinical MessageBilateral thalamic infarction in paramedian artery territory may present with severe acute illness, confusion, coma and memory impairment. However, subtle clinical presentation as in our case should alert the clinician to consider such a diagnosis as it can be associated with good prognosis.AbstractBilateral thalamic infarct is a rare form of stroke. Mostly thalamic infarcts are unilateral. In most cases, bilateral thalamic infarction leads to cognitive dysfunction, opthalmoparesis, conscious impairment, behavioral disturbance, and corticospinal dysfunction. Here, we describe the case of a 75-year-old m...

Diabetes mellitus and adverse outcomes after carotid endarterectomy: A systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: In patients with carotid stenosis treated by CEA, DM is associated with short-term and long-term MAEs. DM may have a greater impact on adverse outcomes in asymptomatic patients after CEA. Insulin-dependent DM may have a more significant impact on post-CEA adverse outcomes than noninsulin-dependent DM. Whether DM management could reduce the risk of adverse outcomes after CEA requires further investigation.PMID:37334731 | PMC:PMC10278750 | DOI:10.1097/CM9.0000000000002730

Melatonin mitigates type 1 diabetes ‐aggravated cerebral ischemia‐reperfusion injury through anti‐inflammatory and anti‐apoptotic effects
ConclusionsT1DM aggravates CIRI. Melatonin treatment is neuroprotective against CIRI in T1DM rats via anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic effects.

Effect and Mechanism of Sodium Butyrate on Neuronal Recovery and Prognosis in Diabetic Stroke
This study examined the role of sodium butyrate in the prognosis of neurological function in diabetic stroke and the mechanism by which Tregs are amplified in the bilateral cerebral hemispheres. We evaluated the brain infarct volume, observed 48-h neuronal injury and 28-day behavioral changes, and calculated the 28-day survival rate in mice. We also measured Treg levels in peripheral blood and brain tissue, recorded changes in the blood ‒brain barrier and water channel proteins and neurotrophic changes in mice, measured cytokine levels and peripheral B-cell distribution in bilateral hemispheres and peripheral blood, and ...

Effect of collateral status on the outcomes of endovascular treatment of acute basilar artery occlusion due to large-artery atherosclerosis
CONCLUSIONS: A good collateral status was a strong prognostic factor after EVT in patients with BAO underlying LAA. A shorter procedure time was associated with favorable outcomes in patients with a good collateral status.PMID:37310068 | DOI:10.3171/2023.4.JNS222779

Identification of m.3243A & gt;G mitochondrial DNA mutation in patients with cerebellar ataxia
CONCLUSION: Mitochondrial m.3243A>G mutation accounted for 0.9% (2/232) of genetically-undetermined cerebellar ataxia in the Han Chinese cohort in Taiwan. These findings highlight the importance of investigating m.3243A>G in patients with genetically-undetermined cerebellar ataxia.PMID:37311680 | DOI:10.1016/j.jfma.2023.05.031
