Clinical Outcomes with GLP-1 Receptor Agonists in Patients with Heart Failure: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials
ConclusionCompared with placebo, GLP-1 RAs may reduce the risk of MACE in patients with HF coexisting with T2DM, with a more significant efficiency of human GLP-1 RAs. More RCTs are needed to assess the cardiovascular benefits of GLP-1 RAs in HF, regardless of T2DM.RegistrationThe protocol for this meta-analysis is registered on PROSPERO [CRD42022357886].Graphical Abstract

Statement of the Spanish Interdisciplinary Vascular Prevention Committee on the updated European Guidelines on Cardiovascular Disease Prevention
We present the Spanish adaptation of the 2021 European Guidelines on Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) prevention in clinical practice. The current guidelines besides the individual approach greatly emphasize on the importance of population level approaches to the prevention of cardiovascular diseases. Systematic global CVD risk assessment is recommended in individuals with any major vascular risk factor. Regarding LDL-Cholesterol, blood pressure, and glycemic control in patients with diabetes mellitus, goals and targets remain as recommended in previous guidelines. However, it is proposed a new, stepwise approach (Step 1 and 2...

Glycated hemoglobin variability and the risk of cardiovascular events in patients with prediabetes and type  2 diabetes mellitus: A post‐hoc analysis of a prospective and multicenter study
ConclusionHigh HbA1c variability in the highest quartile showed a statistically significant association with multiple adverse cardiovascular events in an Asian population. Minimizing HbA1c fluctuation during long-term follow up should be another important objective for type  2 diabetes patients.

Investigation of Pancreatic-beta cells Role in the Biological Process of Ageing
CONCLUSION: Aging accelerates beta cell senescence by generating premature cell senescence, which is mostly mediated by high glucose levels. Despite higher plasma glucose levels, hepatic gluconeogenesis accelerates and adipose tissue lipolysis rises, resulting in an increase in free fatty acid levels in the blood and worsening insulin resistance throughout the body.PMID:37608675 | DOI:10.2174/1871530323666230822095932

CYP2C19 Loss-of-Function Variants Associated with Long-term Ischemic Stroke Events During Clopidogrel Treatment in the Chinese Population
This study aims to determine whether CYP2C19 loss-of-function (LoF) variants were associated with long-term ischemic stroke risk in Chinese primary care patients treated with clopidogrel. Patients treated with clopidogrel were ascertained from a Chinese Electronic Medical Record linked with biobank for a retrospective cohort study. Their medical information was examined for the period from January 2018 to December 2021. Two CYP2C19 major loss of function variants (*2:rs4244285, *3: rs4986893) were genotyped. The clinical outcome was ischemic stroke event. Cox regression analysis was used to evaluate the association between...

Vertebrobasilar Artery Calcification as a Risk Factor for the Development of Stroke: Case-Control Study From a Tertiary Care Center, Southern India
Conclusion The presence of higher grades of calcifications in the vertebrobasilar arteries is a major risk factor for stroke. Hence, its presence in asymptomatic individuals needs to be taken as a warning sign for the development of stroke.PMID:37605701 | PMC:PMC10440145 | DOI:10.7759/cureus.42196
