The Association between Exposure to Second-Hand Smoke and Disease in the Chinese Population: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
CONCLUSION: The effect of SHS exposure in China was similar to that in Western countries, but its definition and characterization require further clarification. Studies on the association between SHS exposure and certain diseases with high incidence rates are insufficient.PMID:36650679 | DOI:10.3967/bes2023.003

Predicted cardiac and second cancer risks for patients undergoing VMAT for mediastinal Hodgkin lymphoma
ConclusionFor patients with mediastinal lymphoma excess mortality risks from CVD and second cancers remain clinically significant despite contemporary chemotherapy and photon-RT. Efforts to reduce the toxicity of combined modality treatment, for example, using DIBH, reduced margins and advanced RT, e.g. proton beam therapy, should be continued to further reduce potentially fatal treatment effects.

Estimation of the effects PM2.5, NO2, O3 pollutants on the health of Shahrekord residents based on AirQ < sup > + < /sup > software during (2012-2018)
CONCLUSION: A significant number of deaths due to air pollutants in Shahrekord have been reported. It can be concluded that by designing and implementing strategies and measures to control air pollution, both health effects and economic losses are prevented.PMID:36561960 | PMC:PMC9764246 | DOI:10.1016/j.toxrep.2022.03.045

PCR225 Quality of Life (QOL)-Related Mentions for Prevalent Diseases on Social Media Platforms in the US
People discuss online the impact of health conditions on their lives. Comparing ‘posts’ across diseases may provide an initial understanding of comparative disease burden on quality of life (QOL). For 8 of the most prevalent conditions in the USA (ischemic heart disease [IHD], low back pain, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease [COPD], diabetes mellitus [DM], lung cancer, stroke, depression, migraine), we identified the number of posts focused on QOL, examined the main topics/words used with the QOL term, and explored the proportion of posts with “positive” and “negative” sentiments.

Air leak in Covid 19: experience from a DGH in the UK
Conclusions: Inpatient incidence of PTX and PM is still approximately 1%. Survival is better as overall Covid19 survival improves(direct mortality from air leak approx. 21 %) with mortality due to other factors rather than the air leak.

Ultrasound guided(USG) trucut biopsy of the pleura, lymph nodes and chest wall/subcutaneous lesions performed by respiratory physicians
Conclusion: Trained respiratory physician are able to safely run US guided biopsy service. This would increase capacity, reduce the diagnostic delays and obviate the need for invasive procedures. Our diagnostic accuracy is similar to previous studies performed.

Active screening for lung cancer increases smoking abstinence in Australia
CONCLUSIONS: This study provides the first data on smoking cessation rates in Australian lung cancer screenees and supports screening as a teachable moment. We identify several factors that identify smokers who may require more intensive smoking cessation interventions and could be used to develop effective smoking cessation as part of lung cancer screening, tailored to individual risk profiles.PMID:36437500 | DOI:10.1111/ajco.13879

Poorly Differentiated Lung Cancer with Intracardiac Extension Causing Malignant Stroke in a Peritoneal Dialysis Patient: a Case Report
SN Compr Clin Med. 2022;4(1):255. doi: 10.1007/s42399-022-01331-w. Epub 2022 Nov 14.ABSTRACTCardiac involvement occurs in an almost one quarter of all the patients with lung cancer. Lymphatogenous spread is a more common route of tumor dissemination than the hematogenous spread. It was a retrospective case report. We hereby report a case of myocardial involvement by non-small cell lung cancer leading to an uncommon presentation of a malignant stroke and death in a peritoneal dialysis patient.PMID:36404986 | PMC:PMC9662106 | DOI:10.1007/s42399-022-01331-w

Meta analysis of health effects of ambient air pollution exposure in low- and middle-income countries
Environ Res. 2022 Nov 11:114604. doi: 10.1016/j.envres.2022.114604. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIt is well established that exposure to ambient air pollution affects human health. A majority of literature concentrated on health effects of air pollution in high income countries. Only fewer studies analyzing health effects of air pollution in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) are available. To bridge this gap in literature, this study investigated short term and long-term health impacts of ambient air pollutants focussed in LMICs. We evaluated Total Non-accidental mortality, Respiratory Mortality, Stroke Mortality, ...
