Real-world impact of disease on functioning and activity: what is missed when using general instruments to estimate quality-adjusted life year
CONCLUSION: Differences in rankings of disease severity by metric indicate that the results of cost-utility analyses might be biased against treatments for certain diseases. As patient preferences for clinical outcomes vary, the full burden of disease should be considered in evaluations. Restricting access to treatments based on an incomplete estimate of burden could lead to misallocation of resources and a withholding of therapies that patients find valuable.PMID:34775901 | DOI:10.1080/03007995.2021.2006535

Prognostic impact of a history of cancer and atrial fibrillation in antithrombotic therapy for chronic heart failure
ConclusionsThe CHF patients with history of cancer and AF had higher risk for stroke, systemic thrombosis, and major bleeding, especially in the elderly and those with IHD, but considerable number of the patients did not receive anticoagulant therapy, indicating the need for better optimal anticoagulation strategy.

Red meat consumption and all-cause and cardiovascular mortality: results from the UK Biobank study
ConclusionOur results indicated that red meat consumption was associated with higher risks of CVD, CHD, and stroke mortality, and the associations were not modified by lifestyle and genetic risk factors. Replacing red meat by poultry or cereal was related to lower risks of CVD and CHD mortality.

Risk of Adverse Cardiovascular Outcomes in Differentiated Thyroid Cancer Survivors: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: There is limited evidence suggesting that DTC survivors may be at increased risk of CV death and atrial fibrillation (after adjustment for confounders). We did not observe a significantly increased risk of ischemic heart disease, stroke, or heart failure. Most analyses were subject to significant heterogeneity and further research, with careful attention to CV risk factors, is needed to clarify CV risk in DTC survivors.PMID:36074932 | DOI:10.1089/thy.2022.0209

Changes in coverage among non-elderly adults with chronic diseases following Affordable Care Act implementation
by John D. Goodson, Sara Shahbazi, Zirui Song ImportanceChanges in insurance coverage after the Affordable Care Act (ACA) among non-elderly adults with self-reported chronic conditions across income categories have not been described. ObjectiveTo examine changes in insurance coverage after the ACA among non-elderly adults with chronic conditions across income categories, by geographic region. DesignWe compared self-reported access to health insurance pre-ACA (2010-2013) and post-ACA (2014-2017) for individuals 18-64 years of age with ≥ 2 chronic conditions, including hypertension, heart disease/stroke, emphysema, diabete...
