The potential therapeutic applications of CRISPR/Cas9 in colorectal cancer
Curr Med Chem. 2023 Sep 15. doi: 10.2174/0929867331666230915103707. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe application of the CRISPR-associated nuclease 9 (Cas9) system in tumor studies has led to the discovery of several new treatment strategies for colorectal cancer (CRC), including the recognition of novel target genes, the construction of animal mass models, and the identification of genes related to chemotherapy resistance. CRISPR/Cas9 can be applied to genome therapy for CRC, particularly regarding molecular-targeted medicines and suppressors. This review summarizes some aspects of using CRISPR/Cas9 in treating CRC. Impact of adjuvant chemotherapy on long-term overall survival in patients with high-risk stage II colon cancer: a nationwide cohort study
CONCLUSION: 5-year overall survival was significantly higher in patients with high-risk stage II colon cancer treated with adjuvant chemotherapy compared with no chemotherapy. Adjuvant treatment was given to less than half of the patients who were eligible for it.PMID:37725517 | DOI:10.1080/0284186X.2023.2251086

Functionalized manganese iron oxide nanoparticles: a dual potential magneto-chemotherapeutic cargo in a 3D breast cancer model
Nanoscale. 2023 Sep 19. doi: 10.1039/d3nr02816j. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTLocalized heat generation from manganese iron oxide nanoparticles (MIONPs) conjugated with chemotherapeutics under the exposure of an alternating magnetic field (magneto-chemotherapy) can revolutionize targeted breast cancer therapy. On the other hand, the lack of precise control of local temperature and adequate MIONP distribution in laboratory settings using the conventional two-dimensional (2D) cellular models has limited its further translation in tumor sites. Our current study explored advanced 3D in vitro tumor models as a promising altern...

Entinostat enhances the efficacy of chemotherapy in small cell lung cancer through S-phase arrest and decreased base excision repair
CONCLUSIONS: In this study, we decipher the molecular processes behind synergistic interactions between chemotherapy and HDAC inhibition. Moreover, we report novel mechanisms to overcome drug resistance in SCLC, which may be relevant to increase the therapeutic success.PMID:37725585 | DOI:10.1158/1078-0432.CCR-23-1795

Pre-operative Neo-adjuvant Chemotherapy Related miRNAs as Key Regulators and Therapeutic Targets in Colorectal Cancer
CONCLUSION: In patients with colorectal cancer, miRNA expression in the tumoral regions before and after neoadjuvant therapy has represented a variable pattern. It has been shown that miRNA studies can be used to predict the clinical course and response to treatment with differences in expression levels. It has been concluded that specific miRNAs may be candidate biomarkers for colorectal cancer.PMID:37723961 | DOI:10.2174/1874609816666230816152744

Sintilimab plus anlotinib as second- or third-line therapy in metastatic non-small cell lung cancer with uncommon epidermal growth factor receptor mutations: A prospective, single-arm, phase II trial
CONCLUSIONS: The combination of sintilimab and anlotinib demonstrated durable efficacy and was generally well tolerated in patients with NSCLC and uncommon EGFR mutations who had received prior standard-of-care treatments. (ClinicalTrials.gov identifier: NCT04790409).PMID:37723837 | DOI:10.1002/cam4.6548

Ovarian cancer in the older patient: where are we now? What to do next?
Ther Adv Med Oncol. 2023 Sep 16;15:17588359231192397. doi: 10.1177/17588359231192397. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTIn recent years, major advances have been made toward the individualization of epithelial ovarian cancer care, leading to an overall improvement of patient outcomes. However, real-life data indicate that the oldest populations do not benefit from this, due to aspects related to cancer (more aggressive histopathological features), treatment (i.e. frequently suboptimal), and the host (increased toxicities in patients with lower physiological reserve). A specific risk-benefit perspective should therefore be taken whe...

Secondary Breast Angiosarcoma After a Primary Diagnosis of Breast Cancer: A Retrospective Analysis of the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) Database
CONCLUSIONS: We demonstrate an increasing incidence of SBA over the study period. These data can help inform shared decision-making for optimal management of locoregional breast cancer and raise awareness of secondary angiosarcoma.PMID:37725702 | DOI:10.1097/COC.0000000000001045

CAB39 promotes cisplatin resistance in bladder cancer via the LKB1-AMPK-LC3 pathway
In conclusion, our study shows that CAB39 counteracts the killing of cisplatin by enhancing the autophagy of BC cells to damaged mitochondria and other organelles to alleviate the damage of cells caused by harmful substances such as ROS.PMID:37726090 | DOI:10.1016/j.freeradbiomed.2023.09.017
