LOXL1-AS1 promotes cell proliferation in hepatocellular carcinomathrough miR-1224-5p/ITPRIPL2/AKT axis
In this study, LOXL1-AS1 was overexpressed in HCC cell lines, and LOXL1-AS1 knockdown repressed cell proliferation and stimulated apoptosis in HCC. Besides, the activating role of LOXL1-AS1 in the AKT pathway was also confirmed. Further, miR-1224-5p was sponged by LOXL1-AS1, and overexpression exerted inhibitory function in HCC. Moreover, ITPRIPL2 as amiR-1224-5ptarget gene. Meanwhile, ITPRIPL2 deficiency suppressed HCC cell proliferation. Finally, miR-1224-5p inhibitor reversed the hindering role of LOXL1-AS1 depletion in HCC cell proliferation and AKT pathway, and this rescuing effect was offset by ITPRIPL2 silencing. In...

MicroRNAs and their vital role in apoptosis in hepatocellular carcinoma: miRNA-based diagnostic and treatment methods
Gene. 2023 Sep 14;888:147803. doi: 10.1016/j.gene.2023.147803. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most prevalent malignancies with high invasive and metastatic capability. Although significant advances have been made in the treatment of HCC, the overall survival rate of patients is still low. It is essential to explore accurate biomarkers for early diagnosis and prognosis along with therapeutic procedures to increase the survival rate of these patients. Anticancer therapies can contribute to induce apoptosis for the elimination of cancerous cells. However, dysregulated apoptosis and ...

Simultaneous quantification of Gadoxetic acid and Cisplatin in hepatocellular carcinomas using laser ablation-inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry
Metallomics. 2023 Sep 15:mfad052. doi: 10.1093/mtomcs/mfad052. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe gadolinium-based contrast agent Gadoxetic acid and the platinum-based anti-tumor agent Cisplatin were quantitatively imaged in liver and liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma, HCC) tissue of rats by means of laser ablation-inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS). HCC bearing rats simultaneously received a tail vein injection of the hepatocyte-specific magnetic resonance imaging contrast agent Gadoxetic acid and a transarterial injection of Cisplatin 15 min before sacrifice and liver removal. Resecting HCC with...

Cancer cell-intrinsic PD-1: Its role in malignant progression and immunotherapy
Biomed Pharmacother. 2023 Sep 14;167:115514. doi: 10.1016/j.biopha.2023.115514. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTProgrammed cell death protein-1 (PD-1), also called CD279, is coded by the PDCD1 gene and is constitutively expressed on the surface of immune cells. As a receptor and immune checkpoint, PD-1 can bind to programmed death ligand-1/programmed death ligand-2 (PD-L1/PD-L2) in tumor cells, leading to tumor immune evasion. Anti-PD-1 and anti-PD-L1 are important components in tumor immune therapy. PD-1 is also expressed as an intrinsic variant (iPD-1) in cancer cells where it plays important roles in malignant progression...

Aflatoxin B1 triggers apoptosis in rabbit hepatocytes via mediating oxidative stress and switching on the mitochondrial apoptosis pathway
Ecotoxicol Environ Saf. 2023 Sep 14;264:115478. doi: 10.1016/j.ecoenv.2023.115478. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAflatoxin B1 (AFB1) is considered the most toxic carcinogenic compound, and exposure to AFB1 is highly associated with hepatocellular carcinoma. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of different doses of AFB1 on growth performance and the liver of rabbits, as well as explore its underlying mechanisms. A total of eighty 30-day-old meat rabbits were randomly divided into four treatments. The control group was fed a pollution-free diet, while the AFL, AFM, and AFH groups were fed contaminated diets ...

Preservation of circadian rhythm in hepatocellular cancer
J Biol Chem. 2023 Sep 13:105251. doi: 10.1016/j.jbc.2023.105251. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCircadian rhythms are controlled at the cellular level by a molecular clock consisting of several genes/proteins engaged in a transcription-translation-degradation feedback loop. These core clock proteins regulate thousands of tissue-specific genes. Regarding circadian control in neoplastic tissues, reports to date have demonstrated anomalous circadian function in tumor models and cultured tumor cells. We have extended these studies by analyzing circadian rhythmicity genome-wide in a mouse model of liver cancer, in which mice tre...
