Comparison of RETREAT and CCFSS Scoring Systems for Risk Estimation of Hepatocellular Carcinoma Recurrence After Radical Resection
CONCLUSION: The RETREAT score demonstrates higher efficacy compared to the CCFSS score in predicting postoperative recurrence in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients and can serve as a valuable tool for the prognostic evaluation of HCC patients who undergo radical resection. The RETREAT score's superiority can be attributed to its higher area under the curve (AUC) and improved sensitivity and specificity, which allow for better discrimination between positive and negative cases. This enhanced accuracy enables clinicians to make more informed decisions towards post-surgical management and treatment strategies, ultimately...

Aflatoxin exposure in adults in southern and eastern Mexico in 2018: A descriptive study
CONCLUSION: AFB1-lys frequency of detection was very high and exposure levels were highest in Veracruz, men, rural areas, and among persons of lower SES. Understanding modifiable HCC risk factors in populations with unique epidemiological patterns could inform preventative interventions.PMID:37672956 | DOI:10.1016/j.ijheh.2023.114249

Mistakes in managing hepatocellular carcinoma and how to avoid them: a narrative review
Expert Rev Gastroenterol Hepatol. 2023 Sep 7:1-7. doi: 10.1080/17474124.2023.2255515. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common liver-related cancer and the third leading cause of worldwide cancer-related mortality.AREAS COVERED: There have been many updated guidelines on the management of HCC in the past few years. Given the increasing burden of HCC in clinical practice, knowledge of evidence-based standards of care for these patients is essential for any practitioner managing patients with HCC. Early detection and judicious treatment based on the stage of the HCC can im...

Prediction of prognosis of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma based on immune-related score
CONCLUSIONS: Moderate/high-grade immune-related score was significantly associated with better DFS and OS in HCC patients. In addition, a nomogram for prognosis estimation can help clinicians predict the survival status of patients.PMID:37673742 | DOI:10.1016/j.asjsur.2023.08.175

Comprehensive analysis of P2Y family genes expression, immune characteristics, and prognosis in pan-cancer
CONCLUSION: P2Ys may be used as potential pan-cancer biomarkers in prognosis and immunology. They may also be new targets for tumor immunotherapy, which has wide clinical implications.PMID:37672858 | DOI:10.1016/j.tranon.2023.101776

Sortilin-driven cancer secretome enhances tumorigenic properties of hepatocellular carcinoma via de novo lipogenesis
In conclusion, our study uncovered the role of sortilin in contributing to hepatocarcinogenesis via modulation of the cancer secretome and deregulated lipid metabolism.PMID:37673328 | DOI:10.1016/j.ajpath.2023.08.005
