Usefulness of tumor perfusion on cone-beam CT after hepatic arterial infusion port implantation for evaluating tumor response to hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy in hepatocellular carcinoma treatment
CONCLUSION: Hyperperfusion tumors on CBCT showed a better tumor response to HAIC, with a 65% ORR in patients with HCC. Tumor perfusion on CBCT after implantation of the hepatic arterial infusion port was associated with the tumor response to HAIC.PMID:37695260 | DOI:10.4274/dir.2023.232311

Clinical, Gender, Socioeconomic Characteristics and Outcomes of Individuals Receiving Hepatitis B Treatment in Ethiopia: 18-Month Follow-Up
Am J Trop Med Hyg. 2023 Sep 11:tpmd230236. doi: 10.4269/ajtmh.23-0236. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThere is a lack of real-world data on hepatitis B (HBV) treatment in Africa. We conducted a single-center 18-month prospective cohort study in Ethiopia to understand clinical, laboratory, and demographic variables associated with HBV treatment. One hundred fifty HBV-positive patients were included: 51 on treatment, 99 with no treatment. Median age was similar between groups. Those on treatment were more likely to be male (86%), report higher coffee intake (90% versus 70%, P < 0.05), lower khat intake (0% versus 9%, P = 0...

Siparuna guianensis essential oil antitumoral activity on Ehrlich model and its effect on oxidative stress
Chem Biodivers. 2023 Sep 10:e202301120. doi: 10.1002/cbdv.202301120. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThis work aims to evaluate the chemical composition, in vitro antioxidant capacity, and in vivo antitumoral activity of S. guianensis essential oil against Ehrlich's ascitic carcinoma and the effects on oxidative stress. The animals (Mus musculus) received a daily dose of S. guianensis oil orally (100 mg/kg) for 9 days. The main constituents of essential oil were curzerenone (16.4±1.5%), drimenol (13.7±0.2%), and spathulenol (12.4±0.8%). S. guianensis oil showed antioxidant activity, inhibiting 11.1% of DPPH radicals (95.7...

A comprehensive survival and prognosis analysis of GPR55 expression in hepatocellular carcinoma
Aging (Albany NY). 2023 Sep 8;15. doi: 10.18632/aging.205008. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common subtype, accounting for about 90% of all primary liver cancers. The liver is rich in a large number of immune cells, thus forming a special immune microenvironment, which plays a key role in the occurrence and development of hepatocellular carcinoma. Nowadays, tumor immunotherapy has become one of the most promising cancer treatment methods. Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) combined with VEGF inhibitors are listed as first-line treatment options for advanced HCC. Therefore, the se...

Recent advances in natural polysaccharides against hepatocellular carcinoma: A review
Int J Biol Macromol. 2023 Sep 7:126766. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2023.126766. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a malignant tumor of the digestive system that poses a serious threat to human life and health. Chemotherapeutic drugs commonly used in the clinic have limited efficacy and heavy adverse effects. Therefore, it is imperative to find effective and safe alternatives, and natural polysaccharides (NPs) fit the bill. This paper summarizes in detail the anti-HCC activity of NPs in vitro, animal and clinical trials. Furthermore, the addition of NPs can reduce the deleterious effects of chemot...

Use of Near-Infrared Fluorescence Techniques in Minimally Invasive Surgery for Colorectal Liver Metastases
In this study, we present a comprehensive literature review of the existing literature pertaining to intraoperative fluorescence imaging in minimally invasive surgery for CRLM. Moreover, our analysis places specific emphasis on the techniques employed in liver resection using ICG, with a focus on tumour detection in minimal invasive surgery (MIS). Additionally, we delve into recent developments in this field and offer insights into future perspectives for further advancements.PMID:37685603 | PMC:PMC10488819 | DOI:10.3390/jcm12175536
