Role of (Pro)Renin Receptor in Cyclosporin A-Induced Nephropathy
Am J Physiol Renal Physiol. 2022 Jan 24. doi: 10.1152/ajprenal.00332.2021. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCalcineurin inhibitors (CNIs) such as cyclosporin A (CsA) have been widely used to improve graft survival following solid-organ transplantation. However, the clinical use of CsA is often limited by its nephrotoxicity. The present study tested the hypothesis that activation of (pro)renin receptor (PRR) contributes to CsA-induced nephropathy by activating the renin-angiotensin system (RAS). Renal injury in male Sprague-Dawley rats was induced by a low-salt diet combined with CsA as evidenced by elevated plasma creatinine ...

Zinc transporter ZIP12 maintains zinc homeostasis and protects spermatogonia from oxidative stress during spermatogenesis
CONCLUSIONS: The testicular zinc transporter ZIP12 expression levels especially in spermatogonia and spermatozoa are higher than in other tissues. ZIP12 may play a key role in maintaining intracellular zinc content at levels that reduce the inhibitory effects of rises in oxidative stress on spermatogonia and spermatozoa viability during spermatogenesis which help counteract declines in male fertility.PMID:35065654 | PMC:PMC8783530 | DOI:10.1186/s12958-022-00893-7

Ursodesoxycholic acid is an FFA4 agonist and reduces hepatic steatosis via FFA4 signaling
This study not only identified a new skeleton of FFA4 agonists, but also demonstrated that FFA4 signal was accounting for the protective effects of UDCA in the NAFLD treatment.PMID:35033554 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejphar.2022.174760

TMEM88 Modulates Lipid Synthesis and Metabolism Cytokine by Regulating Wnt/ β-Catenin Signaling Pathway in Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease
Conclusion: Overall, the study proved that TMEM88 takes part in regulating the secretion of lipid synthesis and metabolism cytokine through the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway in AML-12 cells. Therefore, TMEM88 may be involved in the progress of NAFLD. Further research will bring new ideas for the study of NAFLD.

Piezo1 mediates endothelial atherogenic inflammatory responses via regulation of YAP/TAZ activation
AbstractThe vascular endothelium plays a key role in the pathobiology of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. Endothelial cell Piezo1 mediates blood vessel formation, angiogenesis and regulation of blood pressure. However, changes of Piezo1 expression in atherosclerosis (AS) and the role of Piezo1 in the progression of atherosclerotic diseases remains obscure. Thus, the current study is to elucidate the role and mechanism of which Piezo1 mediates vascular inflammation in atherosclerotic mice and vascular endothelial inflammation induced by oxidized low density lipoprotein (ox-LDL) in vitro. Here, we have shown that the ...

Anti-inflammatory and anti-fibrotic effects of modafinil in nonalcoholic liver disease
Biomed Pharmacother. 2021 Dec;144:112372. doi: 10.1016/j.biopha.2021.112372. Epub 2021 Oct 28.ABSTRACTSmall- and intermediate-conductance Ca2+-activated K+ channels, KCa2.3 and KCa3.1, are involved in cellular signaling processes associated with inflammation and fibrosis. KCa2.3 and KCa3.1 are upregulated by proinflammatory cytokines and profibrotic growth factors. Cyclic AMP, which downregulates KCa2.3 and KCa3.1, is elevated by modafinil in cells; accordingly, we investigated whether modafinil exerts anti-inflammatory and anti-fibrotic responses via KCa2.3- and KCa3.1-mediated pathways in high-fat diet (HFD)- or thioacet...
