Otitis Media: Rapid Evidence Review.
Abstract Acute otitis media (AOM) is the most common diagnosis in childhood acute sick visits. By three years of age, 50% to 85% of children will have at least one episode of AOM. Symptoms may include ear pain (rubbing, tugging, or holding the ear may be a sign of pain), fever, irritability, otorrhea, anorexia, and sometimes vomiting or lethargy. AOM is diagnosed in symptomatic children with moderate to severe bulging of the tympanic membrane or new-onset otorrhea not caused by acute otitis externa, and in children with mild bulging and either recent-onset ear pain (less than 48 hours) or intense erythema of the t...

Cell-Based Quadrivalent Inactivated Influenza Virus Vaccine (Flucelvax ® Tetra/Flucelvax Quadrivalent ® ): A Review in the Prevention of Influenza
AbstractManufacturing influenza virus vaccines using a mammalian cell line rather than embryonated chicken eggs may carry certain advantages. A quadrivalent inactivated influenza virus vaccine produced using the Madin Darby canine kidney cell line has been approved in the EU (Flucelvax® Tetra) and USA (Flucelvax Quadrivalent®; QIVc hereafter) for the prevention of influenza in adults and children. The clinical development of QIVc has built upon that of a cell-based trivalent influenza virus vaccine (TIVc) manufactured using the same processes; the additional influenza B strain contained in QIVc reduces the risk of the st...

Influenza Vaccine-related Subacromial/Subdeltoid Bursitis: A Case Report
We present a case of one such uncommon side effect, influenza vaccine-related subacromial/subdeltoid bursitis. A 72-year-old female presented with severe shoulder pain following influenza vaccination. The pain persisted for up to two months despite conservative measures, and MRI demonstrated moderate subacromial/subdeltoid bursitis. Vaccine-related shoulder dysfunction includes a range of pathology, from osteonecrosis to bursitis, which will be reviewed in this report. Recognition of infrequent vaccine-related musculoskeletal pathology is important to prevent delay of diagnosis.

Pneumococcal conjugate vaccines for preventing acute otitis media in children.
CONCLUSIONS: Administration of the licenced CRM197-PCV7 and PHiD-CV10 during early infancy is associated with large relative risk reductions in pneumococcal AOM. However, the effects of these vaccines on all-cause AOM is far more uncertain. We found no evidence of a beneficial effect on all-cause AOM of administering PCVs in high-risk infants, after early infancy (i.e. in children one year and above), and in older children with a history of respiratory illness. Compared to control vaccines, PCVs were associated with an increase in mild local reactions (redness, swelling), fever, and pain and/or tenderness. We found no evid...

The Safety and Immunogenicity of a Cell-Derived Adjuvanted H5N1 Vaccine – A Phase I Randomized Clinical Trial
ConclusionsThis Phase I trial showed the MDCK-derived H5N1 candidate vaccine is safe and immunogenic. The source of RBCs has a significant impact on the measurement of HAI titers (ClinicalTrials.gov number: NCT01675284.).

Potent Inhibition of Zika Virus Replication by Aurintricarboxylic Acid
In this study, we evaluated ATA as a potential antiviral drug against ZIKV replication. The antiviral activity of ATA against ZIKV replication in vitro showed median inhibitory concentrations (IC50) of 13.87 ± 1.09 μM and 33.33 ± 1.13 μM in Vero and A549 cells, respectively; without showing any cytotoxic effect in both cell lines (median cytotoxic concentration (CC50)> 1,000 μM). Moreover, ATA protected both cell types from ZIKV-induced cytopathic effect (CPE) and apoptosis in a time- and concentration-dependent manner. In addition, pre-treatment of Vero cells with ATA for up to 72 h also...

Days ' Supply of Initial Opioid Analgesic Prescriptions and Additional Fills for Acute Pain Conditions Treated in the Primary Care Setting --- United States, 2014
For 10 acute pain conditions commonly managed in primary care settings, the probability of obtaining a refill after an initial 7-day opioid analgesic prescription ranged from 11% (headache) to 41% (musculoskeletal injury), with refill probability

Transmission Patterns in a Low HIV-Morbidity State --- Wisconsin, 2014--2017
Most human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) molecular linkages in Wisconsin were among persons within the same racial/ethnic, risk, and age groups. Among named partner linkages where both persons had an HIV virus sequence available, 33.8% also had a molecular linkage and were deemed plausible transmission partners.

Post-licensure surveillance of trivalent adjuvanted influenza vaccine (aIIV3; Fluad), Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS), United States, July 2016-June 2018.
CONCLUSIONS: Although our review of aIIV3 in VAERS did not identify any unexpected health conditions of concern, we observed more than twice the expected number of reports with administration of the vaccine to persons outside of the age range for which the vaccine is approved in the U.S. Health care providers should be educated on the age groups for whom aIIV3 is recommended. A case of neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder following seasonal influenza vaccination
We report a case of neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder following seasonal influenza vaccination. Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder may have been triggered by the recent influenza vaccination, although a pathogenic link has not been established.

Needle-free delivery of influenza vaccine using the Med-Jet ® H4 is efficient and elicits the same humoral and cellular responses as standard IM injection: A randomized trial.
CONCLUSIONS: These data suggest that the Med-Jet is an acceptable means of delivering seasonal influenza vaccine. The system was attractive to subjects, rapidly learned by skilled vaccine nurses and elicited both humoral and cellular responses that were indistinguishable from those elicited with needle injection. While other studies have assessed the humoral response to jet injection of influenza vaccine, to our knowledge, this study is the first to assess the cellular aspect of this response.
