A Pharmacological Evaluation of the Analgesic Effect and Hippocampal Protein Modulation of the Ketamine Metabolite (2R,6R)-Hydroxynorketamine in Murine Pain Models
CONCLUSIONS: (2R,6R)-HNK analgesia is AMPA-dependent, and (2R,6R)-HNK affected glutamate, potassium, calcium, and BDNF pathways in the hippocampus. At 10 mg/kg, (2R,6R)-HNK demonstrated a greater antiallodynic effect in models of chronic compared with acute pain. Protein analysis in the hippocampus suggests that AMPA-dependent alterations in BDNF-TrkB and Kv2.1 pathways may be involved in the antiallodynic effect of (2R,6R)-HNK.PMID:37319016 | DOI:10.1213/ANE.0000000000006590

An Unusual Cause of Fever, Neck Pain and Neck Stiffness: Acute Calcific Tendinitis of the Longus Colli Muscle
Acute calcific tendinitis (ACT) of the longus colli muscle (LCM) is an inflammatory response due to deposition of calcium hydroxyapatite crystals. It is typically correlated with whiplash and overuse injuries. A common presentation of this inflammatory response is acute but progressive neck pain. It is a rare but important cause of neck pain that should be considered on a differential diagnosis when distinguishing between life-threatening conditions and non-life-threatening causes of neck pain.

An UNUSUAL CAUSE OF FEVER, NECK PAIN, AND NECK STIFFNESS: ACUTE CALCIFIC TENDINITIS OF THE LONGUS COLLI MUSCLE

It is typically correlated with whiplash and overuse injuries. A common presentation of this inflammatory response is acute but progressive neck pain. It is a rare but important cause of neck pain that should be considered on a differential diagnosis when distinguishing between life-threatening conditions and non –life-threatening causes of neck pain. Case Report: A 51-year-old woman presented to the emergency department (ED) reporting a mild sore throat that prog...

Safe and Durable Treatment of Dentin Hypersensitivity via Nourishing and Remineralizing Dentin Based on β‐Chitooligosaccharide Graft Derivative
A safe and durable treatment of dentin hypersensitivity via nourishing and remineralizing dentin based onβ-chitooligosaccharide graft derivative (CAD) is developed. CAD infiltrated into dentin tubules and repair the glycosaminoglycan film that regulates mineralization. Mechanistically, CAD regulates the level of inflammatory factors, promotes the proliferation and differentiation of dental pulp stem cells, and remineralizes dentinal tubules to form dense hydroxyapatite. AbstractDentin hypersensitivity (DH) is a common symptom of various dental diseases that usually produces abnormal pain with external stimuli. Various des...

Therapeutic potential of endoplasmic reticulum stress inhibitors in the treatment of diabetic peripheral neuropathy
AbstractEndoplasmic stress response, the unfolded protein response (UPR), is a homeostatic signaling pathway comprising transmembrane sensors that get activated upon alterations in ER luminal environment. Studies suggest a relation between activated UPR pathways and several disease states such as Parkinson, Alzheimer, inflammatory bowel disease, tumor growth, and metabolic syndrome. Diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN), a common microvascular complication of diabetes-related chronic hyperglycemia, causes chronic pain, loss of sensation, foot ulcers, amputations, allodynia, hyperalgesia, paresthesia, and spontaneous pain. F...

Cold Hands or Feet
Raynaud ’s phenomenon is an exaggerated response to cold stimuli that may be primary or secondary. The diagnosis relies on patient history and physical examination to distinguish RP from other vasomotor dysfunction (e.g. acrocyanosis, pernio, small fiber neuropathy with vasomotor symptoms, and complex reg ional pain syndrome). Achenbach syndrome, or spontaneous venous hemorrhage, may also be mistaken for RP but is a self-limiting phenomenon. Laboratory evaluation and vascular diagnostic testing may identify SRP causes. Regardless of etiology, treatment includes warming with trigger avoidance, and con sideration of vasodi...
